This Artex powder is the original material used for applying a finish to ceilings without the need to put a skim coat on the plasterboard. Like the term Hoover, we still refer to a ceiling being Artexed even though other manufacturers produced a similar material. Artex ceilings with their swirls and stipple finish have now gone out of fashion but I bought the powder for a different purpose. I use it for covering over cracks in a wall or ceiling. First, after raking out the crack, filling it and applying reinforced tape, I apply the Artex mixed to the exact consistency that suits me. Gently rubbing down each coat, which is wider than the previous coat produces a perfect finish with no bumps to show the area has had cracks filled. This same procedure can be used using a plaster or filler powder but it is more messy and difficult to achieve the same result.

A great product

Not to everyone's tastes in todays home decoration fashions, but Artex, properly applied can cover up a multitude of sins. Especially in old cottages etc.

This is good product, relatively easy to use after mixing and diluting to the right consistency. I couldn't find any reference to Asbestos on the packaging, therefore I assume Artex is now Asbestos free, most welcome.
