After aformation a year before the Pixies: The Boston Broadcast 1987 album has a fiery four firing on all six! A 16 track (plus interview) recording was originally broadcast as an Emerson College FM Radio feature on 18 January 1987-and, this soaring set pre-dates the release of the band’s first EP, Come on Pilgrim.Pixies pioneer Black Francis had advertised for fellow musicians who were in to the unlikely bond of Husker Du partnered with Peter, Paul & Mary. That fresher recording is still seen as the ultimate Pixies pot of potency and its contents along with material from a forthcoming opening album, Surfer Rosa makes for a compelling collection of stage stompEnergy aplenty enters the fray and this is an act sparking up the action on what equates to a demonic disc. A bountiful bombast has Pixies ramp up the gearbox as they display the essential essence of a hungry young combo with lustre in their locker. Pixies of course moved on to commercial and critical acclaim and their influence spread across the sonic spheres. Their ups and downs as a band have also been the source for a surfeit of stories.As US post punk ambassadors it is impossible to sidestep the Pixies portfolio-and, the verve and vitality, angst and attitude on offer here makes one want to say Boom Chicka Boom!
