Excellent coverage with a deep black finish and easy application
This paint is extremely high quality. I used it on my wooden front door and gave it several coats, and the finish came out perfect. The black is very dark and rich, exactly what I wanted. It has minimal smell, goes on smoothly and I had very few drips, which made the job much easier. I also used it on my metal fence railing in the driveway and the coating there is just as good. It grips well to both wood and metal and leaves a strong, durable finish. The paint mixed well straight out of the tin and applied evenly every time. The 2.5 litres was more than enough for everything I needed, and I still have plenty left over for touch-ups or other projects. For the price, the value for money is excellent considering the coverage and the professional-looking result. A superior gloss paint that I would happily use again.

Best external gloss so far.
Fantastic coverage, and as a regular user of paints from different manufacturers, I have to say that this is the best so far. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's very thin for a gloss paint, which made it ideal for use in a spray gun, but it did leave it patchy. A second coat was applied via brush and this covered all the grain marks without leaving any brush marks. The only odd thing is that when applied via the spray gun, it smelled of nothing. However, when applied via brush it was quite noticeable. This probably wouldn't be an issue for external items, but inside my workshop is noticeable. One last piece of advice, in cold and damp conditions like my workshop, items are taking approximately two days to dry before handling. So make note of the weather conditions before painting.

Note that guarantee!
Thought I’d give a review of my experience of using the Weathershield system. I was painting four panels for a beach hut and, although I normally use a water-based gloss or Japlac for exterior work, I thought I’d give this a try, given the coastal battering it would get. I painted them in my workshop with ideal weather conditions in July (no damp). First step (after preparation, including sanding with an orbital sander) was the primer-preservative. To my surprise, it is clear and very liquid, which made it easy to stir with a power drill and stirrer, and to apply using a roller. It gave a good finish and, despite its runny consistency, I used almost all the tin for two coats. Next came the undercoat. In contrast to the primer, on opening the tin I found it like jelly! It had to be stirred by hand and a roller was out of the question; Dulux recommend a brush anyway. It’s consistency means it is definitely non-drip with a brush but, of course, like many water-based/acrylic paints, you have to work quickly. Despite its thickness, I used about the same amount (2 coats) as for the primer. Finally two topcoats; this paint was more like a normal water-based paint, liquid but with ‘body’. Not exactly non-drip - it still benefits from laying off - but thick enough to load the brush without scraping (a roller could be used). I got more or less the same coverage as with the other coats. The stated drying time is 6 hours (it is touch-dry long before) which I took to be the recoating time, which meant one coat a day, given that I do other things. Of course, the finish was good, but then you’ll get that with any half-decent paint when freshly applied. What makes it worth the extra trouble and expense is its durability claim, which is yet to be proven. I will be particularly interested in the reverse of the panels which will not be exposed so much to the elements, particularly the sun (contrary to popular belief, the main enemy of paint is the sun, not the rain). A good quality exterior paint (not an end of line cheapo from a discount chain) has normally lasted me 4-5 years and Weathershield is only worthwhile if it lasts considerably longer. I am actually dubious about the 10-year claim. Under laboratory conditions, on a seasoned piece of wood perhaps, but in practice on doors, window frames and sills? Exterior woodwork often consists of a mix of timbers which expand and contract with the seasons. Joints flex and open up allowing moisture in, which will cause rot and the paint to lift, no matter how good the paint or how well painted. Still, a year on and the paint shows no sign of wear. The tin states that Dulux guarantee 10 years, and I’d be interested to know if anyone has called them out on this before 10 years have elapsed. Highly unlikely perhaps, even if you can find the receipt but, more importantly, it would be useful if people posted their experience of the Weathershield durability over time. I’d settle for something more than half the quoted time. If it does last 10 years, I'll update my review to 5 stars!

Fabulous finish, great coverage, brilliant product
Great quality accurate coverage fantastic finish and quick drying, a more superior finish than cheaper products as it’s water based there’s no unpleasant odour and if pets or children brush up against it, it washes off no problem

Follow the instructions - take your time, you can’t go wrong
I’ll admit I was a little worried ordering this paint for delivery. Reading the reviews there were so many depicting exploded tins arriving on the doorstep. Then there were those telling of it being runny paint, terrible coverage etc. The tin arrived with a large piece of tape over the lid, securing it in place, then it was in a heat sealed bag to catch any leaks and had cardboard moulded packaging to hold it safe in the box. The box was then packaged inside another box. It was like pass the parcel, so clearly lessons have been learned in online delivery paint orders! I’ve never gone wrong with dulux paint in the past and this has been no exception. There’s a lady on here who posted a very helpful review with a video reminder about how to sweep in an upward direction so as not to get drippy paint lines. I’ve painted a lot of things, and this was not only a good reminder but also very reassuring to know it’s down to the application of the paint not the paint itself. Thank you for posting that. My experience - utterly brilliant. I’ve used it on my wooden garage door which took the best part of three days to strip and sand in preparation - it’s all about the prep! I even hoovered and then wiped down the wood work to make sure there was no dust on the surface. This paint doesn’t need undercoat as it’s 2-in-1, and I put it straight onto the wood. In hindsight, with the age and type of wood it is, I think and undercoat would have been a cheaper option as a lot of this paint has been sucked straight into the wood. As a result I do have a patchy result after one coat. The tin warns you of this if you read the side, so it wasn’t unexpected. The garage door also has a metal edge which the paint went onto perfectly! The brush lines (if you use the sweepy-uppy method) disappeared after a few seconds and it dried totally smooth. I’m really happy about that, as I was really concerned about the metal edge. The pain is a bit smelly - I’ve got used to those non-spirit based paints so I wasn’t expecting this. But it’s certainly not anywhere near as bad as the toxic stuff I remember my dad using back in the 80s! If you’re using it indoors do it on a sunny day, start early and keep the windows open. I’m doing a second coat which I’m confident will have the results I want - a nice smooth satin finish… for the birds to poop on as soon as it’s dry!!! (Shakes fist at pesky pigeons!) I’ve got the front door to do, which will be getting an undercoat first this time, as it too is old and probably quite porous. That will avoid me having to use two coats of the expensive stuff, I’ll slap some cheaper no nonsense undercoat on first, just to make sure it looks perfect when it’s finished. Cleaning the brushes was easy peasy. I used paint brush cleaner and it took all of a few seconds of swishing in that, then a good rinse with warm soapy water. I think the brush is now cleaner than when I started!! All in all, follow the instructions, keep it ventilated, sweep upwards with your brush to work out the paint lines, take your time and enjoy the end result.

Brilliant paint
Lovely paint! It went on smoothly, minimum odour. I had to make some repairs to an outdoor storage box. The colour was nice and bright and perfectly matched the existing paint so I didn't have to do the whole thing, just the bits that needed it. Very happy.

Good paint but ....
I am a massive fan of Dulux paints and have used (and still do) them on all sorts of situations both inside and out with great results. I wanted to repaint my front door, back door and garage door, but unfortunately I had used the last of the Dulux Trafalgar Blue paint I have used to for the last 30 years and the colour is no longer available. The nearest to it is 'Oxford Blue' which is a slightly deeper blue, but that isn't a bad thing really. I have never used Weather Shield paint before but I though the name alone meant quality. I usually use the 'Professional' paint for Brilliant White Gloss and Undercoat and that IS a quality paint ! I was a little taken aback when I started to stir this paint as it is 'very' thin ! I carried on regardless, but as a precaution I put down a cotton backed polythene dust sheet, something I have never really used despite buying it, as I load my brush up so it doesn't drip, and have even painted on carpets without using a dust sheet for years... foolish perhaps I know. Believe me you MUST put down a dust sheet when using this paint as even with great care I ended up with about 12 blobs of paint on the dustsheet, not good. Parts of the door had the Dulux Professional White undercoat on it, but the Weather Shield did NOT cover this with one coat, another disappointment for me, as with the 'old' Dulux paints it used to cover no problem. So to sum up, it is very runny (almost like water) and the coverage is not good if you have used a primer or undercoat, I actually had to use 2 coats instead of the usual one. I very nearly only gave it 3 stars but decided on 4 because the end result was REALLY impressive, great colour with a nice deep gloss, to be honest it did look a lot better then the old Trafalgar Blue I had use for the last 30 years or so. I have bought a BIG tin of this for future use (and it was better value for money to buy the bigger tin) and I will definitely use it again, but please do be aware of the two problem areas and you will be OK.
