A 30 year audio tech's review.
I've been testing some Bluetooth speakers to take out to the pool and play music for backyard parties. I'll start by saying that I'm very critical of audio devices. However, I don't expect unreasonable performance from products. I have previously tested The JBL Boombox 3 as well as some of the Soundcore products including the Boom 2 Plus and the Motion X600. Given the power, size and weight difference between the W-king X20 and the Soundcore X600, the X600 had very good quality, but nonwhere close to the X20. The Boom 2 Plus is one of the worst contenders, with poor mids, highs and volume, considering the specs. Let me get down to the important notes for me: sound quality in all volume ranges, balanced sound (not looking for a noise box) I love bass, but need the rest of the system to fall into place. Wide sound dispersion, the X20 has a wide sound field, over 90 degrees. USB-C charging is important to me, as all of my portable devices are compatible with USB-C and I don't want to have to worry about a proprietary cable or an AC adapter to charge my Bluetooth speaker. The W-King X20 checks all the boxes. In my opinion, it has superior sound quality at low to mid volume than the JBL Boombox 3 with a flat EQ. I don't foresee a need for an application I would need anything over 3/4 volume with this speaker. Is it heavy? Yep! Is it still portable? Absolutely. Given the performance of this speaker, the weight is perfectally acceptable. To conclude my review of the W-King X20; excellent sound quality in low to mid volumes, where it counts. Holds together very well at high volume. Bass is full, not boomy, but tight, accurate and responsive throughout. Love the "battery bank" feature. All in all, Irate this 8.75 out of 10. JBL Boombox 3, I rate 8 of 10. Soundcore Boom 2 Plus a 4.5 of 10. Soundcore Motion x600 5.75 of 10. Footnote: I have three Bose S1 Pro plus units that I use for personal stage monitors when running sound for small bands, and this X20 is very comparable in volume output. But as the Bose S1's not recommend to be used in wet locations I did not include the S1 Pro Plus in my comparison with the others.

Louder than the bb3
Pros -Shoulder Strap (Hands free carrying) -SD card reader for mp3 files (no phone, Bluetooth or wifi needed) -Deep bass -Louder than the bb3 -OTG input -Aux input -And best of all, USBC charging (BB3 still lacks usbc charging) The bb3 has more clarity. Maybe the bb3 has a more expensive Amp inside of it. But for 200 dollars, the wKing still wins. I don't think the average person understands the difference in the sound. So If you're a real audiophile, you'd probably own a $1000 Bluetooth speaker instead of a 200 or 500 JBL. So this 200 dollar x20 is the best portable speaker you can buy in 2024. I look forward to taking this to the beach. It's definitely gonna be the loudest speaker there. For 200 its an amazing deal, I would rather take the x20 to the beach and outdoors and on boats. The x20 has future proof features. It's going to be much Louder and perfect for outdoors. And yes you can use a portable usbc power bank with this speaker. I had an issue but wking's customer service resolved my problem quickly. I'm very pleased at this point. I could not be happier. This is the speaker to buy for 2024. I recommend it over the JBL boombox 3. -Cons Comes with USBC cable but no charging brick, well guess what? Who cares? Use your cellphone charger or laptop charger. My laptop charger and cellphone charger work fine on this speaker. ------ 3 month update: I have been pushing this thing to the limit. I have grown more fond of the wking than the JBL. When the JBL is played at 70+% or more, you can notice more distortion. The WKING sounds crystal clear at 100% volume. In fact, the wking actually sounds better when played loud. Play it 100% and you won't be let down. The WKING is made to be played loud. The JBL is made to be played from 1% - 60% The WKING is made to be played from 60% - 100% Just my humble opinion. Crank up the mids and highs and it won't distort. It sounds almost as clear as the JBL. Definitely a good purchase since it's half the price of a JBL. The JBL is for the house. The wking is for the beach and outdoors period. USBC CHARGING IS WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS BOG SPEAKER!

King of Bass.
UPDATE: still loving this speaker. I did take it to a camping/music festival on a riverbed in Northern California. I didn't turn it up to full volume the entire time because it wasn't necessary. the battery indicator stayed at 4 over three days, playing a couple hours each day at maybe 25-50% volume with a DAP (digital audio player) through the aux connection that played at maybe 75% volume. the battery performance was very impressive. the sound was very detailed at low volume -- dare i say crisp? -- playing a bunch of bass-heavy reggae and dub tracks. It just sounds great with the right music. knowing that it can get super loud but also functions well at lower volumes is comforting. The killer feature here is the 3rd passive radiator in the back. it has a 3-D presence that other speakers don't have because they don't have a 3rd radiator. There may be more audiophile-style BT speakers out there for home use. But even though i do play this in my apartment at times (where it's too loud at full volume), this bad boy is made for the outdoors. beach, park, campground, etc. you could spend more and get a JBL Boombox, but the W-King out-performs it in the ways that count the most. I made a Classic Hip Hop playlist that included Public Enemy's "Bring the Noise" as well as Eric B. and Rakim's "Know the Ledge." The X20 brought the MFing noise, all right. The production on thast track is layered with Funkadelic and James Brown samples underneath the booming voice of Chuck D. I could hear everything with good clarity. The Eric B and Rakim track starts out with a looped bass riff that had good tone and texture on the playback. Honestly, I'm not sure BT speakers get better than this. You can bypass the wireless connection and go wired through the aux port or with a TF (SD) card, which theoretically should improve the audio quality, depending on your source material. The effect was negligible in real life. With BT 5.4 and digital signal processing (DSP), you're hearing everything that's on the waveform. I wouldn't hesitate to play classical, jazz, or orchestral music on this if that's your bag. I personally veer toward bass heavy tracks but this will render a cello or flute or violin just fine. If you're a super-nitpicky audiophile, you wouldn't be listening to a wireless speaker anyway -- it would be expensive headphones with a expensive DAP and a wired connection. In practical usage, the X20 gives you enough of a soundstage and plenty of immersivity to make the music come alive. If you can get this for somewhere in the low 200-dollar range, snatch it up with the quickness! It's crazy that you can get two of these for around the price of a single JBL Boombox 3, which has less power and distorts at higher volumes. There are now a few other competitors with high wattage output, but to my knowledge none of them have that third passive radiator which is key for the 3-D sound. In practical terms, the 3-D sound also allows you to maximize battery life since you probably don't need to crank it to 100% volume all the time. Keeping it at 50-75% is plenty loud for most use case scenarios and will give you 12+ hours on one charge. It will play while charging, though for long-term battery life, you'd ideally want to drain the battery before recharging, and not keep topping it off. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This thing is awesome. The sound is immersive. The bass from the three passive radiators is all that. The mids and highs don't get lost somehow despite the massive low end capabilities. The frequency response goes down to 40 hz which is comparable to some home audio subwoofers. It picks up sub-bass. I tested this with a bunch of dub, reggae, hip hop, trip hop, and Miami bass tracks. Basically a torture test for bass fidelity. The X20 came through with flying colors. The bass quality isn't distorted or mushy. It has presence and kick. It's tight with good decay. Bassy tracks sound impressive, and it renders the sub-bass of Scientist and Mad Professor tracks easily, as well as the full dynamic aural spectrum of Massive Attack tunes. The soundstage is pretty good for a boombox, with instrumental separation due to the multiple audio drivers combined with the passive radiators. Have to say the bass boost feature isn't really needed. I turned it on and immediately turned it off. You don't need it and it only distorts treble and mids. With that being said, you can apply preset or custom EQ profiles via the W-King app, as well as volume controls. I have yet to blast this on full volume, which is 200w RMS and like 330w peak (!). That's crazy volume for the size and form factor. You won't need that much loudness for most indoor applications. Outdooors, you can easily drown out lesser competing speakers, but in real practical terms you won't have to blast it too much if you are in close proximity. If you're at the beach or the river, you can reasonably crank it so you can hear your tunes fromm 50-100 fet away. Bluetooth pairing was easy, no problems with an iPhone 14 Pro. after the first pairting it connects automatically. I'm planning on also pairing this with a DAP player through Aux and BT connections. its great to have these options, along with TF card and USB disk. EDIT: it did fine with the DAP/AUX hookup. Just superb. For an outdor speaker, the X20 does everything right. It's a bit heavy at 20 lbs but the included shoulder strap increases the portability. (The JBL BB3 only has a handle, no strap.) You could get something lighter, but not with the same power. There are four white LEDs for battery life indicator that are always on. the power button and BT logo also light up when turned on. No disco lights but those aren't really necessary here. You probably won't notice. Charging is with the included USB C cable. An aux cord is also included, along with the strap. This is a first impressions review so i haven't fully tested every single mode and fonction yet. But bejeepers, if you like BASS, this is your speaker. Mantronix' "Listen to the Bass of Get Stupid Fresh" and Dimples D's "Jealous Fellas" took me back to the 80s, when i had a JVC boombox that took D batteries and probably weighed just as much, with no shoulder strap. Just for kicks, I punched up some Jimi Hendrix and Funkadelic tracks. I probably wouldnt call this a critical listening speaker as that's not its intended purpose, but it did have nice 3D like soundstagge that picked up all the instruments and the guitar riffs with good clarity. That's a testament to the design and audio engineering which places the radiators, woofers and tweeters where they can all be heard. I shudder to think what 2 of these sound like in TWS mode, cranked up to 50-75%. You probably wont need to go louder than that unless you are in a war zone or work construction with jackhammers. This will easily fill a medium sized room or a picnic or beach party. If you are close to the speaker it really doesn't have to be super loud because of the bass presence and overall separation. In a small apartment it sounds crisp from almost anywhere. of course if you place it in a corner it will mazimize low end, but because the subwoofers essentially cover 270 degrees and the woofers/tweetters cover 120 degrees it sounds immersive, whereas a typical sub may be somewhat more directional. Did i mention it has bass for days? in terms of comparison, the X20 goes up against the JBL Boombox 3 and kills it dead like a dibi dibi sound bwoy (cue air horn sound FX ). The JBL has lower overall wattage and has only 2 passive radiators. Critical reviews report its sound is _slightly_ more detailed in highs and mids but distorts and gets sibilant at higher volumes. But, with the W- King app, you can punch up the X20's highs and mids with the EQ, so any advantage of the JBL here can be mitigated. However, the JBL can't compete with the bass of the X20 and its extra passive radiator. It also costs a few hundred dollars more (!). It's hard to justify the additional cost of the JBL when all is added up. W-King also makes a smaller 70w RMS speaker that's almost 1/3rd lighter but has no app connectivity and an earlier version of BT. That one also has three passive radiators and can hit 120w peak power. The X20 blew away my desktop computer 2.1 system, a Klipsch ProMedia rig, with more detailed and immersive low end. It just had more presence, even at low volumes. That's kind of scary as the ProMedias are iconic, if a bit old in the tooth..The difference is the 3-D quality of the bass. The ProMedias and just about every other subwoofer out there, output sound directionally. The X20 outputs bass frequencies front and back and side to side. Bottom line is the X20 is worth the money, espescially if you get it at a discount. It delivers on that bass which is what you want, most of all, in this type of speaker. it's supposed to be IPX7 which is submersible up to 3 feet and 30 minutes. W-King claims it can float which i havent tested. but the build quality is rugged, so who knows?.

Technology is a beautiful thing!
Sounds AMAZING! Definitely doesn't charge in 2hrs and definitely does not last 24hrs at full volume. It does not distort at max volume but bass fades. It's loud. You most likely will not go over half volume for normal use. Over all it holds a clean sound from 0-100 and has a great price. I'm sure there is better but with out a doubt this speaker is legit.

Literally a JBL with a better price and bass to 100
I’m a JBL guy through and through. I have all the Partybox speakers. They are outrageous in price and keep climbing. I came across the Wking when searching for something affordable to buy the kids to take to college with them. Purchased the w-King T-9 and was impressed. Was looking for something to take out to the pool, was waterproof and long battery life. The JBL Partybox essential is awesome but battery sucks. Did research for months and purchased this X-20. Was going to test it and send back but I kept it as it sounds awesome. Get the app. Bass is there all the way to 100. It gets super loud. Easy to transport, charge and sync. I use this more than my JBL encore essential and the JBL 110. Buy it when it’s on sale for $215. You won’t be disappointed at all. Compared to the JBL boombox 3 or 4 and holds its own and way cheaper. Excellent battery life.

This unit is loud
Over the past year's I've bought many different types of Bluetooth speakers, most have been okay with what they were. However most of them have died or quit working, this W king x20 Bluetooth speaker is well designed and is actually quite heavy. I bought this to have tunes on my motorcycle, since I don't like earbuds while riding, this will sit behind me on my seat. I've tested it in a buddies jeep going down the road at 75, with big noisy mudding tires with no top on, having strapped this unit in the back seat and on about 70% volume it was plenty loud. So I expect that when I have a helmet on going down the road at speed, I should have no problem hearing my tunes, podcasts, or news. It fits perfectly on my Honda GL1500, either on the seat or on the rear trunk, anyone familiar with old wings is their poor sound system and the lack of anything to easily upgrade, without spending big $ to replace it's stock audio. This speaker has a big solid handle that I can lock, and securely strap it to the bike. While it may look a little silly or stupid, it saves me a ton of $, and the headaches of tapping into the electrical connections of the bike. Plus I can take the system with me if I decide to leave the bike for a extended period, and use it inside my place. It easily fills 1000 Sq ft of space with rich, high quality sound, on full volume in this space it can make your ears ring. As for the bass it definitely has that, at full volume it can be muddled, however I normally don't use it as most genres of music don't need that. I've not tried the app yet or it's equalizer, however the stock settings are fine for 90% of the kind of music I listen to. I'll eventually get the app, however it works great without it. The only con I've come across is the door on the back of the unit, it opens downwards placing a little strain on the cables, so I place a weight to hold the door open while charging it, this could be easily fixed by W King by reversing the door while at manufacturing, having the door flip up, this would reduce any strain on the cables. Other than that this thing has been amazing so far. Time will tell how long this unit will last, however from initial experiences it looks well built and engineered. Hope that helps.

Best $270 I ever spent!
I love mine forget all you hater's battery life depends on how you listen to it personally I crank it to full and I have it drawing power from my power wheelchair... It stays full both the chair and speaker, it continues to play at full volume. The sound even at max is tight with zero distortion. It is a solid build and it IS heavy. Only expected, they could have put it in a cheaper lighter box but the you lose the sound. Cymbals and rim shots are perfect as is the heavy base. Back to the weight, yeah, 30lbs but worth every ounce! Too bad I can't send a sound byte. Your current speaker would do it no favor. Pro: 200 watts RMS(that's clean sound) Great bass and overall sound Waterproof Could be paired with same model Will play while charging Cons: Heavy - 30lbs 12 hr rated built in battery according to your playing volume. Big? 7 speakers what do you want! Pricey? Yet justified, heavy base and perfect highs. UPDATE: I disconnected Bluetooth for 2 days and when I tried to reconnect it was a bit challenging but doable. I restarted my phone and the speaker about three times until I finally got them to see each other and it's worked since but definitely requires patience. This problem is odd since each night I turnoff the Bluetooth and let it turn off about 5 minutes later and connect without any problem. Perhaps something that could be looked into. I guess with such a sound you had to have something be buggy.

BEST Bluetooth speaker ever. The speakers make a difference. Make sure to update the firmware!
This is probably the best Bluetooth speaker I have ever purchased. If you love music and want to turn it up to eleven, buy this boom box. You will not be disappointed. I was weary of spending close to $300 on this after reading a review and a user talking about hearing static during playback. But I went ahead and bought it anyway. I did hear pops and static occasionally during loud music with vocals and heavy bass. But I fixed it with a firmware update using the W-KING app for my iPhone. So, if you buy this or have an issue with static or pops, update your firmware! That's the fix. After I did that, I have not heard a single pop or any static at all. With the tweeters, mid-range, and sub-woofer speakers this boom box is the best. I have over 8,000 songs in my music collection on my phone, and I tested this with a few types of music, it passed with flying colors. Country, soul, rock n roll. It rocks!
