Keep'em busy for a bit:
This board has quite a few learning opportunities and fine motor skills practice. It's definitely fun for a little while, but I'd recommend using it only for a few minutes per day to keep things fresh and move on to another toy that's more fun oriented.

Fun product; a few flaws
This is a fun product for busy toddlers. I would like the spinning numbers activity to be larger and perhaps different colors for different numbers. My box arrived with a few flaws: scratches on the white board; splintered wood on the inside frame; and a capless, dried out green marker that at some point left marks on the inside.

A Terrific, and Durable, Travel Companion!
We picked up one of these busy boards to help keep our kids entertained and focused during trips, and it has done a fantastic job of meeting our expectations, thus far. The board is made of durable wood components, and has gadgets and gizmos that engage our two year old and four year old. On the front, the board has plenty of features to utilize fine motor skills, with the zipper, buckle, and counter being of most interest to our kids. Additionally, the back of the board is covered with a marker board material (markers included), and in the interior wall of the board has a magnetic, chalkboard type surface where the included animal cutouts can placed. Needless to say, there is a lot of variety with this board! The only real drawback to this product relates to the storage space of the board. There is no way to secure the animal cutouts inside the box. As a result, they have a tendency to fall out when our little ones open them. Given we primarily use this board in the car on on flights this usually means we end up on our hands an knees looking for whatever pieces have hit the floor. While the animals can be stuck on to the magnetic surface prior to closing the board, the magnetic adhesion isn't strong enough to keep them there. So, I wish there was a better solution for making sure these pieces stayed put when the box is opened. That said, the drawback of this product is more than outweighed by the joy and entertainment it brings our little ones. It is a high quality busy board, and it is packed with many more features than many of the other busy boards in the marketplace. All of that helps elevate this product to a five star rating. It really is a nice little portable toy!

It's cute looking but...
We've tried out a few different busy boards for our busy boy. This one was good in theory but not in practice. A few of the activities are not the best examples or well-made. The zipper itself is a cheap one, and the pull is tiny. As an adult I had a hard time grasping it, so I can imagine most kids would struggle as well. It was also not very firmly attached. The little star in the zigzag track has a thin stem and will likely break before long, making for a possible choking hazard. The little beads in the rain cloud could also come free of their knots and get swallowed as well. I'd like to see this one redesigned for safety and practicality.

impractical Well made Busy Box
This review is for the Montessori Busy Board for Toddlers with Drawing Board, Brand TQJ. At first look it is "Wow" solid made toy of wood. It has some fun interaction items on the front of the solid wooden box. Then a second look and it is a zipper, two gears, a plastic buckle, clock, pull strings, latch track star and a number wheel. The latch is hard to work and not smooth. The others are solid, but would not keep a toddler entranced for very long. See first pictureIt comes with a white board with 3 color markers and several magnetic images. Now for the cons:How is a child suppose to play with it? It can't stand up. If you lay it down as shown in the ad the activity items on the front won't allow it to lay flat. And forbid you lay it on a desk or floor that the activity items, metal for one, will scratch what ever they lay on. Which they will do as it can't lay flat so as a child plays with it , it will slide all over the surface. See second attached pictureIt also says there are some items that are choking hazards under 3, but if the little balls on the front come loose, those too can be a choking hazard for much older children.Bottom line: It is well made, but for what a child needs to use it for it is mostly impractical and a no go.

Best Busy Board I've Ever Seen
I have seen and used a lot of iterations of Montessori Busy Boards in my work with kids as well as being an older sister, babysitter and Mom. Most are meh. NOT THIS ONE!Someone finally thought through the design of a true Montessori Busy Board. This one is constructed very securely of solid wood. The clasp on the top and the hinges on the bottom are top-notch products. There's a sturdy "clothesline rope" handle, securely attached. The box is about 2" deep/12 " wide & opens like a suitcase in the middle to reveal a chalkboard, 3 erasable markers (to use on the whiteboard on the back) and a nice set of colorful magnets to use on the whiteboard or Mom's refrigerator. NOTE: It would be a good idea to remove the markers until the young child knows what such items are for to avoid them going in the mouth. On the front are items which toddlers will enjoy manipulating such as a zipper, car-seat closure, gears, wooden balls to hit against the board, an analog clock with movable hands, a star on a maze & a spinner.True Montessori toys are made only of sustainable materials except when none are available (such as the markers & zippers). They encourage the child to be independent in play, learn cause-and-effect, and practice day-to-day skills with real products. This toy comes the closest I have found to a product holding solidly to those principles (no plastic, batteries or flashing lights and sounds). This Busy Board is, indeed, more expensive than most of them. It also offers a lot more. It's a 5 star product in Montessori World.
