Without a doubt this is the real deal.This is such an incredibly beautiful 18K gold plated necklace. I had recently been gifted a compass necklace and my youngest daughter saw it and said she hoped one day she could have one. So - here we are.I found this lovely compass necklace - the beautiful and rich gold color is quite brilliant with her birth stone in the middle. As if that is not enough - it has been engraved in the pendant "I'd be lost without you" which is a nautical theme and our family is all about that. It is so well made, and the weight of the necklace isn't heavy, but you definitely can tell that you are wearing quality materials. The pendant is fold filled, however the chain is a 925S sterling silver. They do offer this in every birthstone, so I definitely love that variety. The chain is 18 +2 extender. So it can be adjusted to your perfect measurement. I must also mention that this does come in a very nice gift bag, so this is giftable right away.Based on my inspection of the necklace, I find that it was made with much detail to the entire piece. The detail is stunning. This is definitely a "winner" of a gift. I found no flaws or defects that would make me feel otherwise. Therefore, based on the magnificent job they did in creating this timepiece, I would recommend this to other consumers. I can't wait for my baby girl to see this on Christmas morning!! This 18K Gold Plated Compass Necklace for Women - I'd be Lost Without You - is so pretty and very substantial! The weighty piece is complimented by a beautiful, sparkly CZ, and it has a very sweet sentiment printed on it - I'd be lost without you. This would make a really nice gift for a wife or girlfriend, and it's particularly meaningful for someone who has a spouse who is in the Military and who is deployed! It's substantial, and the gold plating is well done. It comes with a chain, so it's ready to wear straight out of the package! But unfortunately, this piece is not hypoallergenic, and it started to irritate my skin within a couple of hours of wearing it - really sad because this necklace could pass as an expensive piece! But I love it so much that I just swapped out the chain for one that doesn't irritate my neck, and now it's perfect - for me. The message it sends is a sweet reminder of an important loved one! It really is a unique and beautiful pendant, just beware if you're sensitive! Otherwise, this piece is a keeper!!!

This is a really nice gift option, and its presentation is clearly made for that. It comes in a nice faux-velvet jewelry box, and in a novel outer box which is styled like a boutique shopping bag (but fits securely around the inner box and is made of light cardboard). This is a wonderful birthday or anniversary gift type presentation-- the outer box ("boutique bag" style) means you don't need wrapping paper, and it comes with little ribbon handles and everything. It is a nice packaging presentation.The pendant itself is nicer in person than the pictures, and it is a sentimentally solid accent piece. This isn't fine jewelry, but is a step above costume jewelry-- that said, the price is VERY high (current listing is $99) for what you get. I don't understand where that cost comes from: this is a sterling necklace (maybe $15 in silver) with passably decent 18k gold plating ($10?) and a bunch of simulated/cz stones (which are worth a few bucks). This looks more like a $40 jewelry option from a shopping mall gift shop, not a $100 piece of fine jewelry.The font isn't centered on the compass, which is awkward and not in a fashionable or ironic way, and overall I would say that the piece would be better served WITHOUT the text-- which is tacky, and instantly makes it unwearable by most adults (as it strips away any/all class). This is more like what a child or teenager thinks of as a romantic gesture-- this is what a child thinks of as classy, but is actually rather tacky.If not for the $99 price tag, I would say that this would be a great gift for younger people (to give or to receive) but with an adult price point, I can't really picture who this is made for. (I've given it to my late service dog, and hung it from a pet memorial.)At half the cost, this would be a 4 star item. At this cost, I think I'm being generous with 3, and only if I squint so I can't see the off-center text.
