Quite detailed overall, covers many regions and even smaller towns but unfortunately glaringly completely missed Madeira and Azores. Stunning photos are sure a nice plus. Similarly, the free ebook for the same book is awesome. However, some important info is missing/omitted. For example, bus timetables are given but at most places no information regarding the Bus companies operating the buses is given. Further, it is also omitted at many places how to buy the tickets, whether on board or through some ticket office. No attractions have their ticket prices listed, which is a pity. Even if the ticket prices change over time, a number (valid at time of publishing) gives a fairly good idea of budgeting.

Great guide! A few years ago I switched from Lonely Planet (my go-to for years) to the Rough Guides. What a difference! The Rough Guides are what Lonely Planet used to be: detailed and informative, and without the snark. Info on public transportation, hiking trails, orientation to each region and city, detailed maps, opening hours, historical background to each area. Make the switch!

I have always appreciated Rough Guides for the comprehensive travel content, big and small town alike, both tourist attractions and sights off the beaten path. BUT, this book is honestly hard to use because the font is too small. Likely designed to be published as a zoomable e book, not for print. The maps in particular, as beautiful as they are, the font and the symbols are microscopic and really not useable! Buyer beware. Otherwise a good travel book for Portugal.
