Then I remembered reading another book by the same author about 2 years ago, “Winning in the Digital Age” which helped me understand the digital transformation process, in simple terms. So, I ordered a copy for myself. My book arrived 2 days ago, and I have read the first chapter of the book. It talks about the good and the dark side of data in an easy-to-understand way. Now I feel intrigued about what comes in the next chapter which I see is about how data impacts every aspect of life and business. I have a strong feeling that this book is set to challenge some of the long-standing beliefs and practices in the world of data. Haven’t got hold of a copy yet? MDP takes us on the path from "I need to leverage data in how we run business", to realizing "we are awash with data, but not sure to how to embed it in our processes and customer journeys" - to "identify few Data & AI experiments" - and "scale data infrastructure and analytics stack to support every decision and change in the organization". The vitality of data and organization's maturity to access it is telling on - health of a business, how we organize ourselves as individuals and improve everyday, and interactions between citizens and governments. Nitin has used a simple yet effective tone in his articulation thought out the book to explain the approach and framework needed to derive the true benefit of data. He suggests framework like the "DIAI framework" to look a data journey from start to end. He has divided the book into 3 sections catering to definition, strategy and outcome of data driven businesses. Nitin promotes Unified Solution Framework (USF) for decoding the data paradox which aims to bring all aspects from technology, business, customers and insights under a common umbrella with a two speed approach. He touches various business context from cloud native to pure legacy organization and highlights the step wise approach towards a modern data stack transition. Data driven problem solving approach for individuals After reading both Nitin's book, I felt that MDP was a natural progression of Winning in the digital age. WITDA was focused more on corporate strategy around building a strong GDC culture & mindset and MDP is about how to scale based on data driven artifacts and knowledge base. This book aims as bringing data as a collaboration tool for building a better world together for transformational global impact. I am an AI/ML and data practitioner and I could derive a lot of parallel from my work on Data & AI and what the book promotes as a way to defining a data challenges, root-cause the problem and then have a statistical approach towards resolution of the problem. My Key takeaways is that to thrive in the AI age, every professional must develop a core data & technology, problem solving and storytelling skills. One of my favorite lines from the book "Consider replacing "My gut feeling says" to "the data says". Highly recommend this book to all working professionals and business leaders.
