It is an excellent knife for the price. Unbeatable, even. Nicely packaged. Blade is properly sharp, and I have no reason to doubt its hardness. Ignore those reviews that complain it is not proper Damascus. Damascus core-steel is very unusual and offers no benefits over Damascus-clad steel, such as this knife. Even most high end Japanese knives made in Japan (of which I have 3), some costing several times this price, do not feature a Damascus core. I prefer a lighter, wooden handle, but the handle on this still provides a good grip and is attractive and very well finished.

This knife is superb it glides through meats, vegetables & fruit with ease, it really is sharp straight from the box, Ive used it every day since I bought it 4 months ago and I haven't had to sharpen it yet! Just be careful when washing it, I had to put a family ban on the wife from washing it as she cut herself twice whilst washing and drying it!

Just unboxed my shanzu Venus series knife and the feel and the quality is second to none. It's absolutely beautiful and if you are going to purchase these knives then I don't think you'll go far wrong. I'm very happy with mine and I will be purchasing another one soon The knife is very sharp. The maple handle feels very good in your hand

The knife comes razor sharp. I mean it when I say that it's sharp enough to shave with. My test is always to check if a knife can cut arm hair. It did it without issue. It slides right through tomatoes without squishing them. This knife is very comfortable in the hand even with my larger hands. I've used this knife to cut just about every ingredient in my kitchen. To top it all off it's a work of art the Damascus pattern and the stabilized wood handle is beautiful.
