Q: how long is the refill itself? the one I need is 4 5/8"

Good afternoon! This refill is 4 1/2".

Q: How do you get the old refill out? Mine does not seem to budge . . . thank you.

It should unscrew easily. If it doesn't something is wrong. I would send to an authorized Dupont dealer to repair it. I recently sent a Dupont fountain pen for repairs with excellent results.

Disappointing refill

Bought two Dupont 40870 refills as recommended for my pen by Dupont. When fitted , "nib" hardly protruded from business end of pen. Had to use plastic screw -in end cap from old refill to get pen to work.I avoided cheaper "recommended" refills to avoid exactly this problem. What do I do when this old plastic cap wears out or distorts? Love my Dupont pen but disappointed with after sales items.Update: after a few uses it tebds dry up and scratch, need to scribble about to get writing again. Will NOT order again.
