He is very difficult to groom. He will tolerate brushing for maybe 5 minutes before he starts trying to bite. He has a VERY THICK undercoat that needs to be removed when he sheds. If it isn't removed it gets matted and prevents air from reaching his skin. This could result in his skin not drying after getting wet and cause dangerous skin infections. I wasn't sure what size muzzle I would need. I tried soft muzzles but he was always able to get out of/chew through them. I contacted a groomer who suggested I try a cage muzzle instead.I found this product which is less expensive than most single muzzles I had looked at. I was pleasantly surprised when the set arrived and was durable and well made. I was able to try multiple sizes and find just what I needed. Paired with an undercoat rake/brush, I am able to brush him more safely (for both of us). I am currently brushing him for short (15 to 20 minute) periods and he is starting to get less reactive. I've already removed enough loose hair to make several more small dogs. Lol! If you need a sturdy muzzle but aren't sure what size you need, I highly suggest this product. They are meant for short term use like at the vet or groomer. I am a dog trainer and bought this set so that if one of my clients needs to muzzle train their dog I have multiple sizes on hand that can be used to introduce Muzzles to the dogs.
