I watched this on Paramount + when it aired but, given streaming channels occasional goofy decisions to remove certain series, I decided to purchase this. “Evil” follows a trio of paranormal researchers that sounds like the beginning of a joke-a priest, a psychologist and an engineer walk into a haunted building….the trio Dr. Kristin Bouchard, David Acosta (a priest waiting to be ordained) and tech savvy Ben Shakir work for the Catholic Church to examine paranormal activity from possessions to a serial killer who claims he was possessed to solve these mysteries. They have a nemesis named Leland who is in league with, yep, Satan. He’s quite a fellow. “Evil” comes from Robert and Michelle King who created “The Good Wife”. The series features writing is witty, creative and takes a cliched premise and twists it into a new shape. The series last four seasons. It’s an excellent show. The Blu-ray, like the DVD, features deleted scenes as the special feature along with two featurettes one on the genesis of the series and the other asks if evil really exists(of course it does). Picture quality is better than the streaming version and audio sounds quite nice with a strong 5.1 mix. So, is “Evil” worth spending time with? Absolutely. The overarching story line is fascinating, and fits well with the individual episodes. The villains are truly nasty, yet still fascinating, and the writers don't try to make them anything other than villainous.
