Lawry's Extra Rich & Thick Spaghetti Sauce Spices & Seasonings Mix, 1.42 oz (Pack of 12)

I made this sauce as the first meal for my girlfriend, who is now my wife. I have had countless friends eat this sauce with rave reviews, like I'm a mad Italian genius. I am 100% Polish. It's just easy to make this with these sauce packets. I stockpile them because of this. This recipe will change your life. No joke. I'm almost to my 10th anniversary. Part of the credit is to this recipe. She was wowed by my kitchen skills. I bestow it to the world for its benefit. This sauce is the most incredible base for a delicious, thick, scrumptious, and so so easy meat sauce. Ask Alexa to play Italian Favorites. Get in the mood. Now make this culinary masterpiece: Mama's Italian Meat Sauce 2 envelopes Lawry's Extra Thick & Rich Spaghetti Mix - accept no substitutes! Must be the thick & rich variety. 2lbs ground beef (2 1/2lb will do, most meat packages come in 1.25lb these days) 1 onion chopped (yellow onion, or white, but an onion that's not super huge - if too big, just use 1/2, it's okay) 1 green pepper chopped (size doesn't matter here) 2 cans tomato sauce (15 oz) - generic is fine, Contadina is what my Mom used...roasted garlic or italian herb Contadina works 2 cans tomato paste (12oz) - this makes the sauce thicker. Again, generic is fine, Contadina is what my Mom used. 3 cups water 1 tbsp sugar (tablespoon, not teaspoon) 1 tsp oregano (teaspoon, not tablespoon) 2 cloves garlic (I just use 1 teaspoon from a jar of minced or chopped garlic from the store) 2 bay leaves (optional - i use these, but don't think they're a big deal to exclude) Directions: Chop the onions, discard the ends and skin, of course. Chop up the green pepper after discarding innards/seeds/stem. Add the beef. Cook/stir on medium/high medium until the beef is all brown and no pinkish liquid is coming out. Add the water. (Bonus delicious points - substitute 1/2 cup of red wine and 2 1/2 cups water instead of 3 cups water - makes it soooo tasty). Especially after it sits for a day or more and is reheated. Add the Lawry's envelopes. Add all of the other stuff. Stir and simmer (keep it pretty low, stir it occasionally, don't let it burn on the bottom!) for 60-90 minutes. Longer is better at low temps. This sauce loves sitting around warm/hot and letting the flavors mingle. Seriously. When you reheat this stuff, you'll think you're the most amazing chef in the world, and you are - thanks to Lawry's. Serve this over any kind of pasta - spaghetti is okay, but other pasta shapes are great too and make the sauce stick in them, like shells or rotini or whatever you fancy.
