Our cats love them.
My daughter gave us a package of these bonito flakes. I know you're supposed to use them in soups etc to give extra umami flavor. But we tried them on our cats, and they go crazy for them. It's their treat when they come in at night when we call them, or when we've had to give them de-worming pills as an extra treat. One day I'll get around to remembering to add some to soup!

great for broth or as a Kitty Treat
I actually use this more as a kitty treat than for culinary purposes. The quality is excellent. The bag is VERY FULL. Do take care to keep the contents sealed to maintain quality. I repackaged to several containers and then place the rest in heavy duty plastic bag with air pushed out.I found that Bonito Flakes were my kitty's favorite treat. Buying kitty packs is VERY EXPENSIVE. The cost of this HUGE bag was the same as three small bags of kitty treats. This bag has more like a hundred small bags worth of the highest quality possible. And, A pinch of bonito flakes added to your seafood ramen will BOOST the umami out of the park.EnjoyThis is high quality and very economical.

Maggie The Queen Feline , loves this stuff. I would not eat it myself. It's maybe better for feline health than some other snacks.

High quality bonito flakes!
These bonito flakes are high quality because each piece is evenly and thinly shaved. When added to water, it can make a super flavorful dashi broth in just 2 minutes! I am surprised by how easy it is and it really does taste better than the dashi powders that you can buy from grocery stores. These bonito flakes are a pantry staple to any home cook who loves making Japanese recipes that require dashi broth. These bonito flakes are not limited to using it just for making dashi broths but you can also use them as a topping for other Japanese dishes such as okonomiyaki or takoyaki! You can get creative as to which dishes you want to add an additional umami punch, but I like to stick to more traditional ways of using bonito flakes. Oh and I love that the bag that it comes in comes with a resealable zipper!

Make An Authentic Dashi And Also Top Your Favorite Japanese Dish With A Tasty Skipjack Tuna
Yamaki Bonito Flakes "Hana-Katsuo" can help you make an authentic dashi in under 5 minutes. The resealable bag holds 2.82 ounces of finely shaved, dried skipjack tuna. The pinkish colored pieces remind me of fine wood shavings in appearance. The manufacturer provided a recipe for the dashi on the back of the bag. You just need to bring 2 cups of water to boil, add 2 1/2 cups of the Hana-Katsuo and wait for 1-2 minutes for it to sink to the bottom of the pot, and then gently pour the contents through a strainer lined with cheesecloth. I then used the dashi to make miso soup. It was a noticeable improvement from the instant granules of dashi that I usually use to make miso soup. The dashi was delicious and clean tasting. The meaty flavor is complimented with distinct notes of smokiness and saltiness. The manufacturer also noted that the bonito flakes can be used as a topping on tofu, boiled vegetables, okonomiyaki (the savory protein (either meat or seafood) pancake), and salad, and also as a filling for onigiri (rice balls). I found online that I was able to use the bonito flakes that I had originally used to make the dashi to create a homemade furikake. This was a game changer for me as I felt that getting two distinct dishes/uses for the bonito flakes was a big win. Each 1 1/4 cups serving contains 25 Calories and 5g Protein. The manufacturer noted that once opened, the product does require refrigeration and needs to be consumed as soon as possible. It is a Product of Japan. The product that I received has a best by date of 4 months from the date that I received it. Overall, it is an easy to use product that can be used in a myriad of dishes. I will definitely add another order to my Amazon cart!

Yum
Great topping for any dish. We love it on our Ramen. Tastes great, not super fishy. Great conversation piece for dinner parties as it dances from steam.
