I’ve had this hose reel installed for a week now, and I’m already loving the convenience it brings. The retractable feature is a game-changer, keeping my yard looking tidy and saving me from the hassle of coiling hoses manually.However, the installation process was a bit of a saga. The instructions recommended a drill bit that was too large, so when I drilled into the stud, the bolts just spun freely. This meant I had to relocate the mount, drill another set of holes, and patch the old ones—talk about a DIY detour!Also, some of the instructions were hard to understand — definitely not a native-English writer.For anyone installing this on wood without anchors, I’d suggest starting with a smaller drill bit than what the instructions recommend. Only go larger if the bolts give you trouble. This little tip could save you a lot of time and frustration like I had.Despite the installation hiccup, the reel itself is fantastic. It’s sturdy, swivels smoothly, and rewinds the hose with ease. If you’re looking for a reliable hose reel and don’t mind straying from the instructions, this one is a solid choice. Just be prepared to improvise a bit during installation. Happy watering!

Easily assembled and works well on a 6 x 6 post. Does have to be 31 inches above ground to work making it a bit unsightly.Also, the major concern is the cheap hose. It kinks, if kinked much it is indented, probably will fail soon.

After buying one of these hose reels and liking it, I bought another a year later. When I bought my first one, the reviews were higher. When buying the second one, I noticed they had trended downwards a bit. Well, it has been just over 3 years of light use on my newer purchase and when I went to use it, water was pouring out of the bottom. Knowing it was out of warranty, I took it apart to see what was broken. Boy, is this thing designed to be disposable. The hose attaches to the reel with a plastic elbow (which had cracked). That elbow is secured to another plastic sleeve for the water inlet with a plastic c-clip. No standard, off-the-shelf parts here. And of course, not available from Giraffe Tools, either. Additionally, the hose is attached to the elbow using a compression fitting so you'd have to buy the entire hose for a failed plastic elbow. Using all plastic parts for the critical components does not make for a durable product. That, in and of itself, isn't a big deal if the product were designs it to be serviceable and replacement parts are available. That's not the case here. I contemplated ways to fix it until I noticed Costco sells an automatic reel which ADVERTISES it has a user-replaceable hose. It was longer and cheaper and is backed by a Costco lifetime warranty...I decided to cut my losses as it seems most hose reels on Amazon are a crap-shoot at least that's the picture I get from reading the reviews.TL;DR, It worked great...until it didn't. Important parts are all plastic. These parts are not standard items that can be purchased at a hardware store and are also not available from the company. For the price they're charging, I would look elsewhere.

The return hose guide stopped working within 2 mos. I have tried repeatedly to reach the company. I tried through Amazon no response. I tried email directly through the companies website no response. I tried telephone contact had to leave a message again no response. Absolutely no customer service for this reason I would not recommendUpdate review- after leaving my negative review the company contacted me and offered a replacement. I received it today so I can’t attest to the functionality yet on this unit. I will say I have bought 4 of these hose reals and only had a problem with one. So along with a negative review I guess I should leave a positive and tell you I have been very pleased with all them as evidenced by buying 4 reals. Again problem was only with the 1 out of 4 and the company did make it right. So upgraded to 5 star.

Do yourself a favor a buy this.Seriously. Dealing with manual hose reels that get tangled or jammed was the bane of my spring/summertime existence. These are so incredibly awesome that I bought two. Water pressure is great. They mounted easily and are super sturdy. Hose length is long enough that I can reach everywhere in my yard and I don't have to hear about how I am leaving the hose out in the yard anymore.

I am revising my review to 5 stars as a result of the response and great support I received from Grace at Giraffe. She was genuinely concerned about my experience and the product quality. Products occasionally have minor flaws and when Grace took control of my order, she was great. I am now a very happy and satisfied customer. I will not hesitate to buy Giraffe products specifically because of their support and service.I bought this item on June 27, 2025 very excited to have an automatic retractable hose. I mounted it immediately and have used it every day until August 5 (9 DAYS AFTER THE 30 DAY WARRANTY) when the hose itself blew up like an anaconda that just ate 5 rats. 5 big bulges in the hose, and then it split and leaked uncontrollably. I filed a product quality issue with Giraffe, but they haven't even responded.BUYERS BE WARE!
