easy reading
Patrick Taylor is a must read!! Having recently come across this author I fine his style of writing makes compulsive reading, having read all of this Irish doctor series and as I can not wait for his next novel to come out next year I will just have to reseach his previous books to find out if they are as good. I am sure they will be.

Relaxing read
A very pleasent story in the vain of Dr Finlay, for those who remember the TV series. Harmless good natured tale to relax with and enjoy.

As with his other books the author wove thread after thread of stories and characters into simple yet complex tales of village life into a book that is both interesting and comforting to read. Always filled with the real life drama of a simpler time and place. Memories of my own Irish heritage were brought to light in the pages of this book. Sayings and phrases I have heard and repeated my whole life that I thought to be pure "southern" poured from the lines of this book, intertwined in the everyday language of of the village folk of the fictional village Northern Ireland, tying me closer to his characters with every page. Likewise, with every page my relationship with the characters grew. The author made me, through my emotional involvement and ties to everyone in the book, a part of this village. I have read three books in this series and will continue to read every one of them.

The characters in this novel, including the animals, have lots of personality and the author brings them all to life in a fun and charming way.

An Irish Country Village is the second in the series & it does not disappoint. Our favorite doctors O'Reilly and Laverty are back as is the housekeeper Kinky and the other residents of Ballybucklebo. We learn more of OReillys past as well as Lavertys. There are many medical problems and personal problems of the small village residents, all of which our doctors find themselves right in the middle. Dr Barry Laverty finds himself struggling with romantic and professional problems. These intertwining stories and rich characters provide an entertaining read and I can't wait for An Irish Country Christmas.

If you want a humourous, wholesome, wonderful portrayal of Ulster rural life in the 1960ies - this is it (and the first novel An Irish Country Doctor). Being a doctor, I also greatly enjoyed reading the various case studies. Being 50 years away from Bangor my home town, I thoroughly enjoyed the use of the Ulster expressions and accent and the sometimes caustic humour that is typical of this part of the world. Thank you Patrick Taylor!
