Q: Is this siphon long engine for a 5 gallon carboy?

No. Mainly for filling wine bottles.

Q: Will this work with mr. Beer spigot?

Fermtech sells several. I think you want the 14” for a one gallon carbon. It really works great!!

Q: Does this work on a 1 gallon carboy?

it should as long as the carboy is higher then the bottles

Q: I confess I am a novice - how do you get your brew flowing? Do I need to order another part?

Its works as a siphon. So you need to siphon the liquid to get it started. You can use your mouth or pump (youtube siphoning). You can also fill the tube with liquid to get it started. The final container needs to be bellow the source container.
