Capable Surf Fishing Reel (But Designed for Freshwater)
First off, the reel is buttery smooth out of the box. The handle is ambidextrous, meaning it can be moved from the left to the right and vice versa. The drag feels pretty good, though I haven't tested to see if it really is 26lbs. It also balances well on my 8'6" Roddy Reaper fishing rod.I got this reel for surf fishing primarily. The fish I target rarely get over the 2-4lb range, though occasionally I end up catching some sharks and rays that pull a lot harder than the usual surf fish I target. With this reel, I am able to land even these hard chargers, albeit on 20lb braid (and a 6lb fluoro leader). That said, the reel is not braid ready out of the box. Although the line capacity measurements (initially) provided were for braided line, the spool on the reel lacks any sort of backing for braid. This is easily remedied by the use of a mono backing, a rubber band, or some sort of tape. Also, I should note that while I use this reel to surf fish, I rarely wade into the water. I also rinse down my reel (and my rod) at the beach throughout my fishing session, when I pack up, and when I get home in an attempt to prolong my reel's useful life. Still, given that most (unsealed) reels are bound to corrode at some point, I am always on the lookout for a good spinning reel at a low price. This reel meets those requirements.

Good so far, time will be the true test
I needed a new "general purpose" medium reel for my "just fishing for whatever" pole. My old reel was a Cabela's branded reel that lasted about 13 years, though I'd wager it's best years were done about 5 years ago.I went to the lake yesterday and spooled this with about 100 yards of 30lb Power Pro braid. There is no texture to the spool so I used about 10 yards of flourocarbon backing. The reel turns really smoothly and has good balance and weight.I fished for about four hours total. It was a pretty slow day so I was casting a lot. I wound up with one crappie and one nice white bass. It handled both fine.I also did a little trolling and got hung up on submerged timber once. The drag saved me. Pretty smooth peel and I was able to turn around and save my crankbait, which was nice.At the end of the day I didn't experience any line flinging off the reel, and the line was spooling on fairly symmetrically. The reel will stay in my regular rotation.I'm pretty hard on my equipment so for now it's four stars. If it can last a few years of truck bed, boat box abuse, I'll up it to five stars.

value for money
this isn't the lightest reel I own, and mine (the 4000) came a bit larger than I had anticipated--I was looking for a bass reel for ~10 lb line but am thinking this may instead get 15 lb as a catfish and pike reel. That part is, of course, my fault and not the reel's.Brass pinion gear, like the old Penn I had many moons ago, except that thing was over $100 and felt like they lubed it with oily sand.....the comparison in terms of smoothness is crazy and this wins hands-down.The reel itself is smooth as silk out of the box, with a very solid anti-reverse. construction is solid, and the reel LOOKS good, not that this is a primary concern. The bottom line is this thing is nice....for under $25, it is in fact extremely nice. I haven't put line on yet but in terms of how smooth the drag, the adjustments, the cranking is, I feel like you'd have a very difficult time touching it with a Shimano, Daiwa, etc. without spending twice as much. And given the brass construction, even if it doesn't last as long as a Penn I think you're more than getting your money's worth.

Inexpensive clone that works great
After rigging up this reel, I realized it's pretty much an inexpensive clone of my Daiwa Regal LT. It also feels similar but not quite as smooth as the real thing but I might be bias since the regal is my favorite budget reel.In the box, it came with manuals and a carrying pouch. Not sure why it's needed but I know some more expensive reels come with pouches as well. Product quality is very good. It was assembled well and is comparable to much more expensive reels. I rigged mine up with some Daiwa J-Braid and it looks beautiful. As far as actual performance on the wild, I haven't had a lot of time with it yet. But as I said earlier, first impressions are that the reel performs as good as others double it's price or more. This combo won't be my main setup but it'll be a good backup and the kids will probably end up using it more than me. Great reel for the money though. Definitely would recommend.

Waste money
Easily break on my second fishing trip after washing and cleaning it good. Waste of money and very disappointing.

Smooth as silk and well made - a great reel.
Review is of 3000 series. Every once in a while I catch a brand I never heard of before and am pleasantly surprised at how well made it is. This is one of them. Metal where it matters and durable plastic or composite where it makes sense. This is not a low quality, disposable, bargain shelf reel at all. I just received this and have not had time to fish it, but with a large backyard I was able to get some practice casts in, using an 8lb braided line. The bail was not finicky about staying open when wanted, nor flipping down by crank only. Drag was predictable and smooth. Line came off the spool without any fuss. Cranking is just buttery smooth and quiet. I am more accustomed to 7:1 up to 9:1 gear ratios in my 3000 series reels, so this will require a little getting used to for how I fish, but would still be happy to add more of these to my arsenal.Great reel so far. Great deal.

Decent reel for the price
The reel is smooth but it doesn’t cast that far. The one I got was for lefty and didn’t specify if I wanted one for the right hand. It has a cheap feel to it but it does the job. When I went fishing I was able to catch a trout just fine (about 4-5 lbs). But decent reel for beginners.
