A real workhorse and durable
I had this in the trunk of my SUV for a whole summer. It's been through a lot and still works. It cools very well, and could probably work as a freezer. My main comment is the power draw. Once cooled, it draws about 30 watts and cycles on/off for about 50% of the time its running. The hotter the ambient temperature more frequently it cycles. In the trunk of a car, there does not seem to be enough cool air for the condenser to be able to to its job. That's NOT the fault of this unit. It's a good unit, it just doesn't work well in 100 degree Temps.

Perfect for road trips
Using a powered cooler/freezer is such a great idea for road trips. We bought this one for our nearly 3 week road trip, running it 24/7. It worked like a champ. We used this one as a freezer. It is so much more convenient than an ice cooler. Without ice, we could get something much smaller and still store all the things wanted. Just make sure you don't block the cooling vents while using it. It has AC and DC power cords, so we could bring it into hotel rooms and just plug it in.

Hard to open.
The refrigerator works great. Cools quickly and is quiet. The only issue - try opening the lid with one hand. You can't. Someone mentioned a possible adjustment - if it works I'll give it a 5.

Fantastic little fridge/freezer - It's my second Alpicool
I bought this 12qt Alpicool mini fridge/freezer to use while on car trips and overnight stays because I've had the Alpicool 53 quart dual zone fridge/freezer for 2 years now and it has worked great!I've used the 53 quart cooler outdoors in the blistering heat (over 100F) around my pool bar because it keeps the drinks SO much colder than the dorm fridges in the bar.The freezer has kept frozen foods frozen while on camping trips but 53 quarts is pretty large to just take on an occasional trip so I bought this little one for that purpose and it doesn't dissapoint. It cools down REALLY quick! We were going to take some drinks to an outdoor event so I took the drinks out of my house fridge, threw them in this 12 qt fridge (which wasn't turned on and was 70F inside), plugged it into the 12v outlet in my truck (which was around 95F inside when we put the cooler into it) and headed to the cookout. The cooler connects to your phone so you can see the temp and make adjustments without having to touch the controls on the cooler. The cooler started at 70F when I plugged it in and within 15 minutes of driving, was already down in the low 30's.I let it cool down to 16F before setting it back up to 32F for the rest of the trip.I'm impressed with Alpicool for offering the ability to control their fridge/freezers from your phone at this price point. I'm also impressed with the durability. The 53 quart model I have is already over 2 years old and has been plugged in and running with beverages in it for the past 8 months without any issues at all. Prior to that, we used it for camping trips and at outdoor events. They have no trouble working in temps over 100F while the contents remain ice cold or even frozen (if that's what you have it set to do).I will say that unlike the 53 quart model, this 12 qt seems to condense moisture on the center of the outside bottom of the cooler so it leads me to conclude that it doesn't have as much insulation as the larger fridge/freezer does. The description states that it will stay cold for 4 hours without power. I did not test this as my use case is simply to not rely on ice and I love that all the food and drinks are always ice cold without being wet from melting ice.

A year later... one works, other sits at "F1"...
Updating the review. I purchase another one of these to go into another car.The newer model, bought May 30, 2024, is noticeably quieter than the one bought last year in 2023. It also takes a lot less force to open the lid, but it still closes securely. The good. I like the size, and it cools quickly. It works well, especially on a car seat. The size is small... but for cold drinks in a car with a woefully inadequate A/C, it helps a lot for trips. The bluetooth app is decent, and allows for temperature control, and some basic configuration items. The bad: it is small, and seems not to have much insulation. For day trips, I mitigated this by buying a 700 watt/hour battery bank and a cord to plug from the bank into the fridge. The ugly: The model I bought in 2023, which has been in storage for a while ran without issue until today. However, I plugged it in, and it just sits on a F1 code. It is drawing amps from a 120 volt power supply. F1 means an undervoltage, so I tried it on another power supply, and the battery bank providing regulated 12 volt voltage. I also reset it. Regardless, it just stays at "F1", and does not cool. The other model still works. No clue about the sudden fail, but this is concerning. At least the newer one is working, and I decided to replace the old one with a model recommended by Hobotech.I'm not changing my rating, because the new one has been working without issue for a long time, quietly keeping stuff cool outside. However, the old one failing suddenly isn't a good thing.
