Works Better Than Expected
I ordered this to use on a iPhone 17 Pro Max which is also equipped with a Fjorden camera control. ThismeansImhave a choice use the Olens with the original Apple camera software or Fyorden an Leica software. The lens did take a little experimentation in both hardware and software to find the best combination with the software and fitting to the phone and my preference today is ysenthw Fjorden software and set it to manual focus. That means starting to focus using the lens ring and fine tuning with the software. As others have noted the high degree of magnification does mean that it can be hard to hand hold but at least the camera software will not let the shutter be released until it has a reasonably focused image. The only minus is that I specifically wanted a lens that would connect to the phone via a T mount as the Fjorden IPhone case has T mounts on the lens surrounds. It does work but is a very loose fit. This is not an issue with some other add on lenses I use so seems to be an issue with this lens. I have resorted to using the clamp which holds the lens on the camera but that also has some issues. Firstly it only just opens enough to fit over the 17 Pro Max in a case and secondly something which is an annoying issue. Fitting the clamp tends turn on the camera's video light. If this was a lens I used often I think the small issues could become annoying but for occasional use I think I can live with them but wish I could get the lens to fit reliably straight into the mount on the case rather than have to use the clamp.

Brilliant lens
This is an insane lens! If you’ve got a phone cage and the right mount, this is a must have. Need to use it more often, just need to find the time.

I am amazed at how well built this kit is. It is made with high quality product and built to last. First, the overall package is great. It includes a storage pouch that is semi rigid and has molded pockets for the lens and tripod. It was a good experience while unpacking this kit. Then there is the kit itself. Everything to get going is included here. The lens, the tripod, and mount for the phone. The mount is designed to fit multiple phones. We use this with an Iphone 14 Pro Max, and had no issue. The more annoying part is the camera on the phone, since the phone switches between three lenses depending on the zoom/wide camera. Once mounted to the right lens on the back of the phone, the images are clear and im able to focus and zoom with the manual lens as needed. This just expands the capability of my phone for taking pictures from a distant. Everything is made is made with metal alloy and there is no sign of cheap plastic being used here. Definitely will last for a while. Overall, it is a high entry price to pay but with the quality and level of details of this kit, it really belongs in the higher end and almost pro level product. Very satisfied with this kit!

As with the other handheld telescopic lenses, this one is difficult to use. You will find this one more friendly but don’t expect to take handheld photos easily.

This telephoto lens lies in its case, disassembled yet full of intent. Each piece—lens, tripod, clamp, and adapter—seems to wait, patient, for purpose. I lift the lens first; its cold metal barrel is solid in my hand, and its glass is a portal to some distant clarity. It feels weighty but not cumbersome, as if to say it could endure the journey it was made for. I fit the lens onto my phone with the clamp, aligning it carefully. The T-mount holds firm as though it understands the fragility of its task. The small but steady tripod unfolds with quiet precision. It is no monument of stability, but it holds enough to keep the shot steady if the earth beneath it does not betray it. The 8X optical zoom is a curious thing, both a blessing and a demand. It brings the far near, revealing textures and details unseen by the naked eye, yet it asks for my patience in return. Every tremor is magnified, and every shift is an earthquake in miniature. But when it steadies, when the frame locks onto its quarry, the world becomes a tapestry, sharp and alive. The limitations whisper through its features. Though firm, the clamp feels stretched when fitted onto thicker phone cases, which raises concerns about my $1,500 iPhone. While clear, the lens struggles in low light, reminding me of its ambition's boundaries. The tripod’s reach is modest, requiring near and stable surfaces, and its ambition is as compact as its design. Still, I find myself drawn to the act of it—this extending of vision, this borrowing of distance. It is a tool that does not promise mastery but offers possibility, a way to see further than one could alone. The lens, the tripod, and the act of focus conspire quietly, asking only to be used. And so, I use them, understanding their limitations.
