Great, well-balanced, and an awesome deal
Definitely an awesome bang for your buck headphones!! It packs great base, great fidelity, and doesn't muddle sound as much as Beats do. They aren't specifically noise-canceling, but the way the "pillows" hug to your ears tightly and comfortably, they definitely do a good job blocking out outside noise. Although I haven't "burnt" my in fully yet the quality is really great especially for this price point -- even though my girlfriend said the base don't sound as "3D". Don't get me wrong, the base is strong for sure, but just seems really "full" and not really directional...not sure how to describe it but I guess typically base would feel to be at the "bottom" of the music when listening, but with these so far the base has sounded like another layer surrounding all the music. Not s single regret in this purchase though I love it and it came with a shiny pouch despite some reviewers mentioning that it doesn't I think. Got these for the girlfriend and the design is nice, modern, but not too masculine even for her. Hope this helps.

Best bang ever for your buck
Amazing bass response. Better than $250.00 ones. If you eq with slightly more mids you will get tone you never knew could come out of a headphone. Full spectrum with major emphasis on the low end. I’m a bassist and I love them. Great buy for the money. All that bottom blew me away. You won’t regret this purchase. Only complaint is they put the cheapest flat wire on it. They should have put better quality cord for the price.

Great sound, even without an amp - but questionable design choices - can make these hit-or-miss for you...
PROS: These are simply the best bass-focused headphones I've tried, and the price makes them even more attractive. The build quality is as good as some of the $200-$300 headphones I own, but not as good as the elite market gets. The general comfort is excellent. The headband (which is padded despite the way the photo looks) and articulating ear pieces really make for a flexible-but-comfortable fit, and they don't slide around. The sound is best described as "full bodied". After burn-in, they can be surprisingly responsive to a wide range if you play with EQ. I find them to be a bit more realistic with bass, rather than artificially "boomy", like some others. This is likely due to the 50mm driver having a naturally deeper response than typical 30-40mm drivers. I listen to heavy bass music and don't hear distortion or clipping with these headphones, even when amplified with my NU or FIOS portable amps. Finally, these are the only headphones I travel with anymore. I call them the "origami" headphones, because they swivel, fold and articulate down to a very compact form, despite their full-size design. CONS: On the questionable side is their choice to go with non-removable/replaceable cord. It's about 4 feet long, and that's all you're ever getting with these. In my case that limits my use of them to scenarios where I'm using my phone as the source. I don't sit close enough to my PCs or home audio to use them without dragging extensions. Secondarily, the design of the ear pads is going to be hit or miss for people. It's a hybrid design... the ear pads, themselves, are "on-ear", but they are so "pillowy" that your ears sink through them inside the cups, just like circumaural designs. However, the ear cups themselves are smaller than other full sized headphones, so if your ears are large, they will press against the plastic frame and it will hurt. Additionally, this design is not friendly for people who wear glasses, unless the eyeglass temples and earpieces are very thin. And finally, this design can trap heat. An hour of wear and your ears will sweat, which causes a waxy grime to build-up on the ear pads. For me these would be perfect bass-head headphones if they had the same ear cup/pad design as the Sony MDR-1R. Those are so comfortable, you can forget you are wearing them.

They are everything I was looking for
I already owned the MDR-XB400's and although I miss the mic/buttons in the cord. The quality of these alone make up for that. Let me put it this way. These headphones, changed the way I hear music. I have heard some of my favorite songs of all time, in another dimension with these. Now the only thing that Beats by Dre do have on these is volume. Just try and find some specifications, they don't exist for Beats. The MDR-XB800's are real. If you do manage to find some, you'll see that the impedance is way higher for the Beats, but other than that. Nothing is close to the Sony headphones. And because the driver is a 50mm driver, vs. a 40mm driver, the Sony headphones are in a whole different league. So for FIFTY bucks cheaper than buying them direct from Sony. These are the best quality headphones that you will find anywhere, as of right now for one hundred bucks. Amazing quality, amazing price. If you've spent any time at all thinking about these, just buy them. You won't be disappointed. Also, the delivery was quick, timely. And the headphones are real.

With a good headphone amplifier to drive them
With a good headphone amplifier to drive them, these are capable of causing your cheeks to vibrate from the heavy bass. I'm not exaggerating. I use them with a FiiO E12, and I have demo'd them for a couple of co-workers. They couldn't believe headphones could sound like it. The bass works well with all genres of music that I have played on it, from hip hop to thrash metal. The 50mm driver is perfectly capable of quick punchy bass and low rumbling bass. The mids and highs are also very well maintained. Sony did not sacrifice anything putting this together. The pads are the most comfortable that I have ever used. l am not sure I could recommend this for people with small heads though. I have a pretty big head, and even I use the smallest setting. They do not clamp down very hard, which I love, but might be a problem for others. Only thing that would have made this better for me would be some sort of removable cord to both ears and easily replaceable pads, which I think should be a standard for every headphone. More colors would also be cool, but that is negligible. Other then that, this headphone is perfect for me.
