Q: Are these suitable be used on a 'brother' sewing machine? would they fit sewing machines? sorry if a silly question but not used one before. thanks

These threads can be used on any sewing machine, just make sure you have the same in the bobbin and of course check the tension before sewing. As the threads are 100% cotton, it's best to use them to sew cotton fabrics - if you use polyester thread it will eventually cut into the cotton as it's stronger.

Q: Are these threads of strong quality? (and are they suitable for sewing machine use at all? how about at high speed/tension?) thank you!

I only ever use Guterman thread in my sewing machine, both the cotton thread and the polyester sew-all thread. I have never had any problem with breakage, and use it at all machine speeds. If you are sewing heavy fabrics such as denim, you might consider using a thicker grade of thread. Gutermann does produce thicker thread suitable for heavier material.
