Amazing quality, sharp looks and comfortable right out of the box! READ THIS if you're on the fence!
After searching high and low for a good, American made "work" boot for travel wear and casual use, I narrowed the choices down to Red Wing, Wolverine, and Chippewa. I forgot where, but I then found Thorogood and had to throw that into the mix as well. After comparing prices, reviews and overall looks/function I decided to roll the dice and go for the Thorogood boot. Main reasons were: all leather, American made, 6" height, comfort, LACE HOOKS towards the top and...price.Let me tell you folks out there...this boot is AWESOME. I have a weird fetish(?) for "work" boots and chukkas over regular shoes and own/owned Aldens, Danners, Red Wings, etc. and these Thorogoods fit PERFECTLY right out of the box (do order a size or half size smaller), came with a nice comfortable insole, used good quality leather and were very nicely stitched where the leather meets the sole. It is obvious these boots are well made and with pride. How is it possible they make such a quality product for a lot less than all the companies I listed above??? I don't know but now I'm tempted to order a couple more in different styles/colors just in case they eventually become trendy and retailers like J. Crew, Brooks Brothers and Union Made start commissioning special editions for their shops and jack up the prices!I've only had this pair for a couple days now, but I've been running errands around town and walking as much as possible and they're comfy with medium weight socks and I feel no break in will be necessary. Later this Fall I'm taking a long trip abroad and definitely look forward to having these with me the whole time! Now go get a pair and DON'T spread the word!! ;^)**EDIT ADDITION 10/9/13** After wearing these boots for a couple months and doing quite a bit of walking around San Francisco last month, I found they are a LOT more comfy with a pair of the Amazon sold "Superfeet" premium insoles. Lots of choices there and I got the Copper fit. Highly suggest looking into this option. Going on a long trip to Asia and possibly EU in a couple weeks and will be wearing my Thorogoods!

These are it
I've worn these boots for three years now, and easily walked a thousand miles in them in addition to wearing them while working outdoors at sports stadiums operating television cameras. They are the best boots that I have ever owned, and I expect to have them for quite a long time.I've worn them in outside in the summer, and winter, in the rain and snow, and have had to stand in them all day and also walked twelve miles in four hours while wearing them. I've worn them to go dancing at bars and at semi-formal gatherings as well. My feet have never been uncomfortable or wet. I have received numerous complements from women while wearing them as well, and as long as you take care of the leather they look good enough to wear with dressy clothes. Better yet, they're made in the USA with union labor, and they're inexpensive compared to their quality. The only things I don't like are that they have absolutely no insulation, so I find that they're too cold for the winter when it gets much below ten degrees or so even with a good pair or two of wool socks. The soles are sturdy and great for concrete and other paved surfaces, but I wish that they had a little more traction for walking on ice or going hiking. Of course, I have other boots that I don't care about getting trashed in the winter or on long hikes, but they're nowhere near as comfortable. These Thorogoods have spoiled me.I now work at an outdoor store and have to wear the hiking boots we sell on the job, which cost two to three times as much and are made in Europe. They fall apart after a year or so and still hurt my feet after a few months of "breaking them in". Every day that I don't have to work is improved tenfold by getting to slip these on again.

Most comfortable footwear I've owned post 2 years ownership.
April 6th of 2016 these were purchased so today is around the 2-year anniversary of using these as my daily wear boots. There was a lil bit of a break-in period and a small hotspot showed up on the bottom-most "knuckle" of my big toe. However after the first couple of weeks they're comfy as ever. Now I wouldn't say they're as comfortable as a dope pair of basketball shoes fresh out of the store cause they're like walking on clouds. But if I wore a 150 dollar pair of Nike's for 2 years they'd look super busted and wouldn't nearly be as comfortable as these after 2 years. I have a low arch and the insoles don't seem to aggravate my plantar fasciitis. I've worn these for 6 mile walks and haven't had blisters or hot spots develop. They're a bit slippery in snow especially now that the tread is gone.As far as wear goes the treads probably have another 1-2 years left before a resole is necessary. The triple stitching at the front left of the boot has a bit of pilling but it looks like a cosmetic thing more than anything that will effect functionality. I condition these maybe once every 2 months and they've survived snowy weather as well as hot desert conditions. As far as leather condition, the cold has caused some cracking on the leather but it's surface level and not noticeable unless you look close (detailed in picture). Lot's of scuffs but I kneel a lot (not for any unscrupulous activity) and I rest the front toe of my boot against the ground when I'm straight chillin. Here's some pictures of the boot after 2 months of no conditioning. No real complaints, I will be buying Thorogoods for the forseeable future.
