I have a downdraft range exhaust system (see photos) next to my kitchen range which does a decent job removing cooking orders and grease but definitely has its limitations. This is especially true when using a splatter guard. The guard prevents the downdraft exhaust system effectively catching smoke, grease and odors, but with the Range Hood’s base extension the splatter guard is no longer is an impediment to odors, grease and smoke being removed. I have used the AirHood Wired Range Hood twice this past week and am very pleased with its performance. A good purchase; the AirHood is now a permanent part of my kitchen arsenal. Update: Still giving the AirHood Wired Range Hood 5 stars. I went back and looked at the most negative reviews, and some valid observations. The Range Hood is noisy as I expected it would be, especially given the substantial carbon and steel mesh filters. Even used along with my downdraft exhaust fan, odors escape (open floor plan in my home). Noise level too high to carry on a conversation with someone else in the kitchen, but then I am a solo cook - no one else allowed in the kitchen when I am cooking.

It does not come with european plug in, but US version. I did not find any informazion on that when purchasing.

This works pretty well. I put it on top of a stand to get it close to my wok. Powerful. Easy to clean. Quite loud, though. It’s essential when cooking Cantonese food in a wok without a range hood.

As an apartment dweller with a range hood that doesn't vent to the outside, there are certain types of cooking that I avoid because of all the smoke that results. Then I read a solid review for the AirHood on Serious Eats, a website for avid cooks like myself, and I decided to give it a try... but I wasn't fully convinced it would really work. So my test was simple: unbox it, plug it in, then see how it does when I sear a rib-eye steak in a blazing hot cast iron pan. Normally, that would produce a guaranteed fog of smoke that sets off the smoke alarms and lingers in the apartment for days. If the AirHood didn't work, it was going right back to Amazon. But to my surprise, it really worked! There was virtually no smoke in my apartment after searing. A few things you should know: As others have noted, it's really loud, surprisingly so for its size. Perhaps no louder than my range hood fan on high, but that's really loud, too. It did not remove odor nearly as well as it did smoke -- I could definitely smell that I had seared a steak in the apartment, which isn't a bad thing, but if odor removal is a high priority for you, this may not be your device. If you plan to use this with a gas stove, be aware that the manufacturer recommends the wired version only. I primarily use gas, but I have an outlet near my stove, so plug-in wasn't a problem. I am thrilled that the AirHood will finally allow me to do certain kinds of frying and searing that I've avoided for years because of the smoke problem. I thought seriously about giving this five stars, but deducted on star for not removing odors as effectively as I believed it would. Nevertheless, if the smoke issue I have wtih the range hood fan sounds all too familiar to you, I highly recommend the AirHood. Thanks for taking the time to read my review and I hope you find it helpful in making a buying decision.
