Product description Elephant Robotics 6 DOF Robotic Arm - myCobot 280 NOTE: The mycobot280 robotic arm is recommended for individuals with a basic understanding of programming and is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN. Given the product's usage threshold, we strongly advise thoroughly reading the instructions before operation. Safety Warning No Warning Applicable

Review: Key functions are not finished - Once a motion is started, you cannot communicate with the robot to update its current position. So you never know if the motion is finished or not. Even worse, the motion could be interrupted if you try to get its current position. The related Python functions are empty. So, the only way to use this cobot is to use timer. Start a new motion, wait for the amount of milliseconds and start another motion. Repeat accuracy is not too bad, but absolute accuracy is horrible. For example, if you tell it to go to 100 mm height (Z-axis), it'll stop anywhere between 110 and 90 mm, depending on how far the arm is out. Fortunately this is not a big deal, just compensate the height as needed. The motion is never linear, even though the related functions provide such an option. So, you have to divide a motion into 3 segments with the middle one to be the longest movement. This way, you can set the heights for the beginning and end of the middle segment. Otherwise, the robot end-point could hit the desktop during a motion, badly. It took me about 2 months to figure out all the details. But now it does the job for me: pick up a part, drop it under a camera, detect defects and alert the operator with a flashing light. See the video, pretty cool for a single robot to do all. My next step is to use another robot to pick up the part and drop it into a good or bad bin, saving an operator. A single robot cannot do all, because every 4 pieces of parts must be done within 30 seconds, leaving no time for the robot to wait for the detection and then put the part into a bin. Rasspberry Pi is way cool for robots and I support 100% this effort! So I still give it 5 stars even it is not a finished product and one has to spend quite some time to find out what's lacking and the workaround. This cobot is good for object detection or such things, but not suitable for very fine blob detection that requires very high quality images (0.050 mm). Because you can use USB cameras only, hard to get you the image quality of a native Pi camera. I was going to use this cobot for both motion and imaging, but I ended up still using another Pi with a 64MP Arducam (hacked with a C-mount) for blob detection. Even so, I still love the Python programming and easy I/O control offered by a Pi robot.
Review: Myblockly - The myblockly software and mycobot firmware do not communicate. The robot will move during its own calibration, but the myblockly isn't capable of reading python.
