Won't leave home without it!
I took my dog to the nearby high school, as I often do, to run in the open fields and chase flying discs, and just walk the perimeter. The school does not mind dog visitors as long as folks clean up after their dogs! My dog is 7.5 months old (a large, medium Goldendoodle who thinks every human and dog wants to play). Before unleashing him, I make sure all the gates are closed and if there are other dogs present that they are with a human. This afternoon I spotted a guy with 4 unleashed dogs - small, medium, and large breeds) and nobody else was with him. I took my dog to where we usually play but did not unleash him. The guy with the dogs was approximately 1/2 football field away. But as my pup and I were making our way to where we usually play, one of the guy's dogs, a tall, black Doberman pincher-type dog, was making his way to us. I could hear the guy yelling, but had no idea what he was saying. I attempted to get my dog behind a gate and onto an empty baseball field, but my dog was excited and I presume thinking he was going to meet a new friend, which has happened several times at this school. I have my dog mace attached to the front loop of my jeans, so I had the canister in hand. As the dog approached, I could see that he was starting to growl, and then the other three dogs (much smaller) joined him. The owner was getting closer and yelling, "They're all friendly, they just want to play." I said, "Get your dogs, or they'll be maced!" Soon, the large black dog was towering over my pup, who had assumed a submissive position on his back on the ground. Then I heard my dog yelp in pain. I was behind the black dog, picked him up by the collar, swung him away from my dog and, unfortunately, had to mace the dog to get him to back off. It took a few seconds before the dog started to cough and retreat. The guy came to his dog, and I said I'd maced his dog with dog mace (human mace can be pretty harmful to dogs). The owner grabbed his dog and said he liked to play, but then the owner got a whiff of the mace and started to cough, too. I told the jerk that his dogs should not be off-leash unless he has control of them, and they will return to him when called. They would not listen to him. I told him he lacked control of his dog and had no business having him unleashed on a school property. He gathered his dogs, dragging the black one by his collar, and returned from whence he came. I was so upset that I sat down in the sun with my pup, who seemed just fine, and then I cried. I'm a 73-year-old woman in fairly good shape, but my dog weighs about 38 lbs, and the black dog was more muscle, so I must have had an adrenaline rush to pick up that black dog with one hand and mace him with the other. My dog and I stayed and played a short time longer, but we were both so upset that we left. I took my pup and got him a pup cup (ice cream). After we were home, my puppy kept coming to me, trying to lick my face and look at my face in a way he'd never done before. It made me realize he was most likely just as worried about me as I was about him. Thank God my dog trainer suggested I get dog mace and always carry it with me. I've carried police-grade mace for years since I would often be leaving hospitals in the middle of the night, but I didn't know about canine mace until the trainer told me. I fear what would have happened if I had not had that weapon with me and ready. The owner was too far away to get his dog off of my dog. Idiot.

Smaller than the pictures indicate.
The lady's hands in the image must be tiny. When I unwrapped mine I expected it to be twice the size it is.First, the strap is elastic so it can stretch over any hand. But for what purpose? The device itself is more the size of a PEZ dispenser than a water bottle.I can't speak to the effectiveness, since I haven't needed to use it.I planned to carry it in a water bottle holder on my e-bike.

Great
It's great, I hope I never have to use it but it's very nice but haven't tried it yet. Bought this after my neighbor let her 3 knowingly aggressive dogs run loose like always and they ambushed and attacked my service dog. Next time I hope they control their dogs, as a trainer I never want to cause harm to any animal which this stuff is the safest on the market to use on animals. If you own a animal leash them because regardless of how trained or friendly that other animal or person may not be as friendly and if your dog is running free and a fight breaks out your just as at fault wether your dog instigated it or not.

Dog deterrent
I have a reactive dog. A while ago we were chased by a loose dog. After that I got this product. It’s small and easy to use. Powerful enough to protect yourself and your pup but safe enough not to cause permanent damage.

I was confronted by two pit bulls while walking very early one morning. Apparently they had been dropped of by someone, not from around here, that didn't want them or couldn't handle them anymore. It was just getting light out. It was just me and them. They were roaming the street loose and unattended. They stopped in front of me, side by side, and started to bare their teeth and growl. There was nowhere for me to go. ( fortunately I had gotten into the habit of carrying the " muzzle " with me on my walks because it was usually dark out at that time of the morning. ) I sprayed them both in the eyes, they started to whine and took off. I honestly believe, if I didn't have the Muzzle I probably wouldn't be here and would have had a horrible death or a horrible life had I lived. The police and animal wardens finally got them and took them away later that day. This really happened, this is not a story ! Steve

Save your money and fight them off with a stick instead!
I purchased this product because I walk nearly every day with my dogs. Along the way, there is a pack of three large dogs. They come up from their property and charge at us, trying to separate me from my dogs. Needless to say, there have been several fights. Law enforcement doesn’t really care about vicious animals around here unless someone dies. Yesterday I armed myself with this mace and hit the road, feeling quite confident that I had the upper hand. The dogs charged at us as usual and I responded with a squirt. Folks it couldn’t even be called a squirt. It sprayed a thin stream of brown liquid. No where near a four foot shot. Miraculously, I managed to get one in the eye. It blinked a couple of times, pawed at its face and got right back to trying to eat me for lunch. I sprayed at the pack three more times, making it a total of four shots. When I pressed the button the fifth time, it quit its weak squirting and began sputtering a thin mist. It was at this point that I’m certain I heard the pack of dogs laughing at me as I frantically shook the device trying to get it to function properly. The liquid was now all over my hand and it was quite hot. We managed to get away from the beasts and live another day. This product has good reviews. Perhaps i received a bad canister or some other malfunction occurred, but I would not trust this product to keep me safe. It did not shoot four feet and I most certainly did not have 20 shots. I’m going to take a different route and avoid the hell hounds all together from here on out.
