It will work in a pinch or if you just want some basics for practice. The issue lies in the fact that the peas grip whatever pad you’re using and you can’t slide The shell around while the pea is inside of it. in my opinion, this defeats the purpose. This really only works on a hard surface. To that point if you were looking to do this on a hard surface the pea works well, but the shells are made of a hard plastic with shallow ridges that do not make it easy to pick them up, it shouldn’t be a task to pick them up to show there is or isn’t a pea underneath. Again, this is where they shoot themselves in the foot. The pea doesn’t work on cloth pads in the shell hardly works at all. That said if you’re doing it on a hard surface and have moist fingertips you should be fine.
