why pay $130 for a winch handle that sinks ? this does the job. I bought 2 for less than 1 fancy metal sinker.

It's always good to have a backup. This winch handle is reasonably priced and feels sturdy enough to get me out of a jam if I dunk a more heavy-duty primary one. Maybe this could work as a primary on something 25' or less.It's light and I can confirm it floats, but I'm not sure if I would actually be able to see and recover it in heavy weather. I had another floater go overboard years ago and just couldn't spot it when it for recovery.

This is in relatively light duty service (22' boat with working jib). Works fine as a handle, but will not lock in place on the Forespar # 6 winch -- the square locking tab is plastic and is thicker than the usual metal tab -- it will not fit into the slot inside the winch socket.

It fits great, but it won't lock into place. The shaft would have to be about 1/2" longer to lock into my Enkes winches. This may or may not be the case with other brands of winches. Still I'm very happy with it and it floats.

Yes it does actually float. The same friend who lost my none floating winch handle dropped this one overboard as well. Fortunately he floats as well and I shoved him overboard to retrieve it. I was happy we could keep sailing and he was wet the rest of the day. 10/10 would recommend product and retrieval method
