It is applied to the nail tip not the entire nail. There is a Mavala clear coat but this is not the same produc. This product is absorbed into the nail it does not need to be removed. I have been using this product for years and the actual small bottle it great. Only thing that makes my nails grow. However, this pen thing is CRAP! No liquid comes out. It’s a dry sponge! I push down, to the sides, nothing no liquid coming out..
