The Richest Man in Babylon

It is such a nice book on finance that no one could ever learn from school. Although on some subjects it might have been tackled, but on the majority side, all weren’t tackled in details. The richest man in Babylon tells of the great learnings on how to become rich like that of the richest man of Babylon, told in a classical way, however still, quite understandable if we have to compare in today’s modern way of writing books. Superb and highly recommendable especially to young and newly employed people who would love to invest using their savings or hard earned money. ☺️

The story line is simple but the lessons are invaluable! Highly recommended!

Even though this book is old, I found it clear and practical. It is a good basic guide to get started in personal financial management.

このThe Richest Man in Babylonという本はいかにして金銭的な豊かさを達成するのかということについて書かれた古典的な本です。舞台は古代の都バビロンで、そこに住む大金持ちの男が自らの金銭哲学を披露するという寓話的な構成になっています。大金持ちのArkadが語るその内容はバビロンの都のみではなく、現代においても十分通用する内容となっています。 このように書くと、手っ取り早くお金を得る方法が書かれていると思われるかもしれませんが、そのような考え方は帰って強く戒められています。ばくちをせずに堅実に金を貯めるための心構えが書かれています。そのため、とにかく今すぐたくさんお金がほしいという人にはこの本は向かないと思います。あくまで堅実を旨とする金銭哲学が披露されます。 ただ内容自体は有益な本なのですが、内容が寓話調のため英語まで古英語にしてあり、読むのに時間がかかります。theeという言葉が普通に会話で使用されている本は余りありません。聖書くらいでしょうか。その意味で読みやすさを考えれば、翻訳本のほうが良いかもしれません。
