How to choose the size?

There is a sizing chart in the listing; however, I have a 39" waist and ordered a Medium according to the chart. I was BARELY able to fasten it. Got a Large instead and it fits perfectly. So it seems they run small. It is a wonderful brace, by the way. I love it!
