Most chargers will adapt to the device, or vice versa, but if a Kindle somehow can't handle a higher rated charger, then it's a POS, because this adapter is worth $3, tops, in 2018. It's the most generic kind there is -- it is literally the same, EXACT cheap adapter that comes with EVERY Amazon Echo, FireTV, Kindle, or Fire Tablet. So, if your gonna get waste $20 on one, you might as well spend the extra 5-20, to get an Echo, Dot or Fire Stick and use that adapter for your fragile Kindle, then use ANY other adapter (even the USB port on the back of your TV, for a FireTV Stick) to power the $20 off device you just got. Heck, you'd be best off to wait for one of the 30 sales a year that Amazon has on its electronic devices, and just get a new, better, updated Kindle for what becomes an incredibly cheap buy, at $20 off. This may be THE most overpriced item on Amazon, although you'd have to go through their entire line of Amazon Basics, to make sure.
