When the protective door is opened, the electronic exit stopper (STI-6400) emits a 105dB warning horn with pierced ears and hurry to attract attention. When properly mounted and key switch is turned on, the opening of the door will pull the unit away from the magnet that then releases the internal read switch causing the siren to alert. MOUNTINGH: Close the door then mount the magnet on the inside door frame at the opposite side of the hinges (opening). Depending on the conditions, locate the magnet either at the top or side of the door frame near the door's surface but do allow a slight distance from the actual door surface so that it doesn't stop the door from closing. Once it is mounted you will mount the main unit onto the actual door putting the read switch side of the unit so it is very close and lined-up evenly with the top of the magnet's surface. You will need to disassemble the unit so as to mount the unit to the door as well as to insert or change the battery. There are two types of keys for this unit, the metal type key has a fork end on it that fits into the screw head that holds unit together. The gold keys (two) are used to turn on or shut off the unit. You will need to have this gold key available to turn-off the unit or to turn on the unit. **Q: Alarm goes off even when key is off. What am I doing wrong?** A: Thank you for reaching out to STI. Unit should not sound after key has been turned to the horizontal "off" position. If this is happening you may want to check the key switch wires are still in the key switch terminal.
