Review: Works great - Works as advertised no more stinky smell
Review: OUTDOOR SEWAGE SMELL SOLVED - Purchased a brand new 2022 built home that’s about 1,500 sqft. We do have a brand new septic system and existing well on our property. However, I moved in during the warmer months, and as the temperature started to drop I began to notice a fowl smell towards the back of the home. At first I thought it could of been a dead animal in the woods or so, so I brushed it off. But the smell continued to come and go mainly at night time for an odd reason. KEEP IN MIND, I had no signs of a failing septic system (water back up in drain field, no indoor smells or toilet flush issues). A friend had came over and said for sure the smell is definitely sewage smell, so I narrowed down the smell coming from the 2 plumbing vents on top of the home. After contacting my builder he said there’s no way, that this smell could be coming from a neighbors yard (I’m not close to my neighbors septic field). But the septic designer did recommend a coal filter like this one but at first did think I sounded crazy explaining my issue at first. Purchased these bad boys and it was nice that it even came with an attachment for smaller PVC pipes( oddly enough both plumbing vents were different sizes). Super easy to install, they fitted snuggly over PVC pipes. NO MORE EMBARRASSING SEWAGE STINKY SMELLS AROUND MY HOME!!!. I love that there’s no more fowl odor immediately after installing this product. THANK YOU ODORHOG!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how long will it stay effective?  Do filters need to be changed?**
A: Yes, there is a replaceable charcoal filter inside the body, in a breathable fiberglass mesh bag. When the charcoal becomes fully saturated with Hydrogen Sulphide in several years (depending on the level of sewer gas emitting from your vent stack), you can remove the mushroom cap, pull the bag out by the handle and slide the new bag in while the unit remains on the vent. Many of our repeat customers purchase their replacement bag at about the 3 year mark.

**Q: How often do you need to change the filter?**
A: Even though concentrations of sewer gas vary depending on whether a commercial building or a smaller home, we see customers buy their replacement charcoal at about the 3 year timeframe. Using a lot of bleach or having multiple bathrooms off one vent can also wear the unit prematurely.

**Q: how long does it last untill you have to change the filter? How often do you have to change the filter?**
A: Hi Roxanne,Many of our residential customers come back to our website to order their replacement bags at the 3 year mark. Those that have a very active home and vent system, with many kids, showering, lots of laundry, clorox use, etc, can expect to get 18 months to 2 years out of their charcoal life. The important thing to note is that replacement bags are available on our website for $22.49 ea and they can be changed out while the filter remains on the vent stack. Pull the old bag out and massage the new bag down in, put the cap back on and your all done! Thanks, Karen at OdorHog Inc.

**Q: can this be used as air admittance valve? (replace candy cane?)**
A: Hello David, OdorHog Vent Pipe Filters are different from a AAVs. The OdorHog has a densely packed carbon filter bed that the vent pipe breaths through. Some customers have used OdorHogs in conjunction with an AAV if their vent pipe has too much negative pressure. OdorHogs can be installed on the vent pipe once the candy cane is removed because they are installed upright so the carbon stays fully seated in the filter. A candy cane was designed to keep out debris or rain and once removed, the OdorHog takes the place of that rain cap. It wwas smelling intermittently (mostly outside until I opened my windows then it came indoors, and I could not track it down where it was coming from, so I bought these and installed in 5 minutes and I haven't smelled anything since Seems a bit expensive....maybe charcoal is really that expensive but worth every penny to get rid of that smell and be able to open my windows again.
