OK, so this is a lightweight bat with a plastic cap. If you're buying for self defense just go in knowing that this isn't going to end an attack by a determined individual or more than one person. It will hurt them pretty good on the first swing IF you land the blow perfectly, but if I had to guess, it would collapse after that. I wouldn't hit a baseball with this thing, that's for sure. The baseball would win. So no, it's not "thickened" and you're probably better off getting a little league baseball or softball bat that can actually stand up to repeatedly hitting a hard object (including skulls). This thing looks the part, but it's too light weight to end most fights with any person/people who would bother to attack someone they saw was already holding a bat.

This is light weight and situated where it's easy to get to. I have it on a wall mount. It's definitely a good piece to add to your home defense.

Exactly what I was looking for. I had been looking for something to keep in my home as a quick access self defense product and this is perfect. It's lightweight so it's easy to maneuver and at 24 inches it can easily be concealed in our home while still having quick access to it if necessary. Grip feels good and the bat is strong for the size. Highly recommend.
