I'm not sure what Quality control issues others have been having but so far this yoyo is fantastic. I'm a beginner so most of my tricks and string play/looping techniques are pretty basic so I can definitely recommend this to a beginner or kid. One small tip for other beginners like me, if you're more about return tricks like I am then make sure to double wrap the string when you put it on to increase the response. It reminds me a lot of the old Duncon Profly I had when I was a kid. Like many of you other yoyo enthusiasts, I'm sure you also got the fateful visit from the yoyo man (Duncan Representative) when you were in grade school and he probably told you yoyos would be the future of sports and in twenty years everyone will yoyo. Well there's not as many people still doing it as you'd think but you'd be shocked at how many adults have retained even the basic skills. Back to the review then. This yoyo is roughly around the same size and width as a Duncan Profly and slightly thinner than a Fireball. The bearing is powerful enough to get about ten to twenty seconds worth of hang time on a good throw. Again, this is not really an issue for beginners. If you need more hang time to learn tricks then you'll need to invest a little more scratch into the hobby or get an unresponsive yoyo and learn how to do a basic bind return. I would say this is fine gift for a kid or if you're just looking for a bit of nostalgia.
