Having used Fodors Guides earlier the information content of lonely planet did not quite measure up to expectation. It is a rush through tour whereas a lonely tour could have made space for more detail.

Excellent book. It covers most important things and places, and it covers so many countries, all in 1 compact book. It's perfect for travelers wishing to minimize what they carry when seeing sights. Highly recommend it. Was vital in my last trip spanning several countries.

A good overview of Eastern Europe with the majority of information you need covered. The book is quite compact so is handy for travelling, however, as mentioned in previous reviews, that does mean individual countries only have limited information so if you need lots of information on a specific country/city you need to buy a guide for that. Otherwise a good concise guide ideal for travelling.

This book is only good when you plan to stay in citys and travel by train or bus. No campsites are listed or tips and tricks about travelling by bicycle, car or motorcycle. There is a lot of text about restaurants, hotels, hostels and nightlife, but not about wildlife, hiking trails, special laws or important local behaviour rules. That does not mean its a bod book, you just need to know what its about.

I was so happy with lonely planet's travel guide to prague and the Chech republic. We wanted to go to slovakia, and as there is no seperate up to date guide we bought this one. Admittedly it is designed for people who want to travel around eastern europe instead of focusing on one place, but it certainly doesn't give more information than you can find on the internet in 5 minutes. Useful for those who do not want to search on the internet and/or have absolutely no idea of the geography of the region. But in that case you will probably book an organized trip.Again, generally I like Lonely planet guides, but they should discontinue this silly book
