Perfect size. Durable - survived my 1 year old
Bought this in December 2020 for my 1-year-old nephew. He can now identify each picture and the corresponding word. It also helped him master his upper and lowercase letters! They are a good size measuring 5.3 x 3 inches (posted a pic of my nephew holding one of the cards. They're made of cardboard. I would have preferred hard plastic, making them more durable. But the cards held up pretty well. They were used upward of 3 times weekly for about 3 months and then usage frequency was reduced...now they're just sitting there and he would occasionally pull them out for revision. I've posted a pic of the most beat-up card so you have an idea. That said, the box does specifically state for 4+ years old (and at that age, children are more careful, and drooling and spills aren't as big an issue (as was the case with my son lol). So, with that, the cardboard material is age appropriate. I would buy again without hesitation.

My Son Loves These Cards
My son is young adult with disabilities and he loves these cards. I must say that they're adorable and they help teach youngsters the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colors. During this pandemic his day program was online and they used them and my son loved it and looked forward to interacting and using these cards throughout the school week. The cards are a good size and colorful. Absolutely adorable. I even got a kick out of seeing them and have purchased them a few times because he likes to rip them. As a matter of fact I'm about to buy him some more. The prices are pretty good and they're great for small children too which I'm sure they were actually for.

Decent cards but one small issue
Over all these flashcards are okay. The only issue I have is that for the “Ii” flashcards one of them is “igloo” and other is “ice cream”. A short “i” pronunciation and a long “i” pronunciation. This is a bit confusing for my child. Especially when all of the other vowel cards show only short vowel pronunciations for both cards. If each vowel had one card for a short vowel pronunciation and another showing a long vowel pronunciation then it would be understandable. There needs to be consistency.

Better than the other flash cards brand on amazon
Amazon offers two brands of flashcards: School Zone (this one) and Brighter Child. It's hard to tell the difference from reading the Product Descriptions, so I bought the Alphabet flashcards from both brands to try them out. Both brands are about the same size and provide 2 flashcards for each letter. I think the School Zone flashcards are better in several respects: * The School Zone cards have 2 different pictures for each letter. E.g., for the letter "A", School Zone has an Apple card and an Ant card. The Brighter Child cards have two identical Apple cards (one has a capital A and one has a lower case a). The different pictures on the School Zone cards allow for a good match-the-letter game. * The School Zone cards have the letter and word written on the back, so the parent knows what is on the other side and older kids can learn to read the words. E.g., the back of the Apple card says "Aa" and "apple" on the back. The Brighter Child cards have a generic design on the back of every card (sort of like a deck of playing cards). * The illustrations on the School Zone Cards are higher quality original artwork and more engaging. The illustrations on the Brighter Child cards have a grainy look, like someone downloaded free clip-art and enlarged them. * The School Zone cards are made in USA. Brighter Child is made in Vietnam. So the School Zone cards have a smaller carbon footprint just from being shipped a shorter distance and probably were made in a more environmentally-responsible manner * And finally, the School Zone cards are cheaper

I bought these because of the whimsy aspect. The art would have appealed to my children. However, what arrived in the mail is nothing like the photo. No whimsy, just standard flash cards with normal, boring clip art photos. Not worth the time to return but still so disappointed.

Hard paper with laminated finish cards, so they will last for quite some time.
