Perfect Slices Every Time
Not always easy to get even slices for home made breads. But this knife is the perfect tool to get the job done perfectly. Easy to adjust and easy to clean. Highly recommend.

Slicer guide came bent.
The slicer guide is flimsy plastic, difficult to adjust, and was warped/bent. Not worth the purchase for the price. This is definitely not a restaurant quality knife, even as a backup.

brilliant for home baked bread
love this knife when slicing my home made bread, to get decent amount of slices.

Not a good guide knife
I purchased this to use to cut cucumbers and other soft vegetables. The plastic adapter that is used to determine how thick the slice will be is too soft and bends when cutting so the slices are not uniform. The price would be fair if the product worked but since it does not work properly as a guide knife I marked the item as overpriced.

a good compromise
I wanted to thinly slice meat and cheese, and uniformly slice homemade bread, with minimal clean-up (i.e. as opposed to an electric food slicer.) This knife has largely met those needs. The blade itself has kept an edge nicely (no need to apply the honing/sharpening rod, after 2 years of occasional use,) and the knife is light in my hands. However, an electric food slicer produces thinner slices for meats and cheeses; raw meat often crumbles or tears if I try to slice too thinly with this knife. If I use it several days in a row, my manual skill improves and results are better and more consistent, which wouldn't be an issue with an electric slicer. Still, I'm happy with it because the proof is in usage: I never hesitate to pull it out, even for a small slicing job, knowing that clean-up is a breeze. The slicing guide has not loosened or otherwise deteriorated with time. There are more affordable options, but I prefer German steel. I would have liked a full tang blade at this price, however.

Great present for bread bakers
Got this for my mother and she absolutely loves it. She said it's so much better than the large wooden bread slicer. She raves about it.

Can’t believe it’s a Mercer knife
It is a very lightweight, cheap knife, too short to cut a round loaf of bread and must cost under a $1 to manufacture. Shocking. I wrote to Mercer and here is their reply: Thanks for the feedback, this is a very specific knife that varies quite differently than our standard bread knives. In fact, it's not even originally made for bread but rather it is a traditional German sausage made with a guide. This is made at a partner facility in Germany and is on the Amazon marketplace as a bread knife. We appreciate your feedback- Thanks, Joe @ Mercer

I’ve had this knife for a month and it’s still sharp. I make my own bread so I use it everyday and it’s a good knife. I also cheat and cut meat with it too. Cons: the plastic cover ripped after a week. I’ve put duck tape on the cover to make it last longer since I place my knife in a drawer and I want it sharp.

This is a Christmas gift, exactly what she wants. The only problem is the packaging, the box is ripped and torn in some places, so we tapped it up and hope she doesn’t notice it when Xmas morning comes along, we should have taken a picture of it but taped and wrapped now.
