Everything I needed for a Drawing 1 class all zipped in a neat, padded case. Quality products at a reasonable price.

I purchased this as a gift so I haven't actually used the pencils and other tools myself - but from my initial inspection, they seem to be very good quality. The case they come in is sturdy and well-organized, and there are a wide range of drawing tools (a variety of pencils, sharpeners, eraser, sandpaper for sharpening, paper cones for blending, etc.). This is a great gift for a beginning artist, or an experienced one who needs a handy, compact-yet-conplete pencil set for sketching on-the-go.

*update I'm really loving how dark I can shade pictures now. The pencils feel great in my hand. No complaints here* -Disclaimer- This is my first sketch kit. I'm very inexperienced and I know next to nothing about drawing. Short version.. I like it a lot and would buy it again even though I've yet to use one item in it! It's a new hobby and this kit is a major upgrade from the dollar store pencils I've been using. Long version.. With that being said...I was slightly confused as to what I had purchased and when I first opened it these were some of my questions. "What are charcoal rods, graphite rods, solid paper pens, willow branches, and chalk paint brushes? Why does my set have 39 pieces? Did they include the case as an item? The picture with what it "contains" has 40 pieces plus the case. How am I getting confused and what is going on?" This is what I've concluded in my search. Simply google or youtube what you don't know how to use. And lastly... -They messed up the description.- These are the two reasons why I say that. #1. It really has 39 pieces in the case and the case counts as 40. Their picture has two duplicate "black pastel pencil" ..but there is only one of them. #2. The description of what it contains is wrong as well. It doesn't have "5 chalk paint brushes" or "2 solid paper pens" but instead it has 4 pastel pencils and 2 paper stumps. ~Side note, one of the paper stumps doesn't have it's own slot in the case and doesn't fit in it perfectly. None of that ^^^ would change me from getting it, I just like to know what I am really buying. - So here it is.. *****The 39 items in the case are as follows ***** -Left side, top to bottom. 12 sketch drawing pencils (8B, 6B, 5B, 4B, 3B, 2B, B, HB, 2H, 3H, 4H, 5H) 4 willow charcoal (in the box) 3 charcoal rods (soft / medium / hard) 3 graphite rods (soft / medium / hard) -Right side, top to bottom. 1 graphite pencil (6B soft) 3 charcoal pencils (soft / medium / hard) 4 pastel pencils (black, sepia, red brown, grey) 1 double-headed pencil extension 2 paper stumps (use for blending) 1 metal tool (a tiny box cutter) 1 sandpaper (for cleaning your paper stumps) 2 erasers (a regular white one and a grey kneaded one) 2 pencil sharpeners ********************

I am a slightly more than novice pencil artist. I've drawn a few pieces that sold, but I know my place in the art world, so I suspect there are much higher quality kits out there for much more money, but this kit is awesome for my level. It has everything the beginning to medium-level artist needs for getting your vision onto paper in mostly monochrome. It does has some colored graphite, but I can't say much about that as I don't yet use color in my art. Bottom line: EXTREMELY worth the money for beginning to intermediate artists. (May ever be great for advanced artists, but can only speak to my experience and I'm not there yet.) Would make a lovely gift for the artists in your life.

These pencils are gorgeous! Exactly what I was looking for! I draw portraits in graphite and in many cases I need to use a matte graphite pencil to get really dark black and in some cases, the ordinary graphite is too silvery and shiny. These are perfect for my needs and I will order another set to have one sharp and one blunt!

I love the pencils. It's a very good package for drawing. The only thing I wasn't happy about was kneadable eraser.
