Post-surgical pain and stability support
I had spine surgery years ago and it made building abdominal muscles impossible. I never been pain-free in 20 years. I tried this belt despite the other reviews; glad I did. First, the pros: IMMEDIATE relief. It makes my abdomen feel like it did when I was 19: firm and nearly pain-free. Whenever I have housework to do now, I put that on and it makes it possible for me to do light chores that I could not do before, and when I'm finished there's no additional pain for all of my working. Simply put, it's my best friend when I work. Cons: Yes, it does come with a smell, but the initial smell was not bad. I wore it several times over a tee-shirt because I did not want it to get wet with perspiration. When finished, I laid it open across a piece of furniture to see if the smell would dissipate; it did. After a week, no smell. I don't know what other people have experienced, so I'm not saying they're wrong, I'm just saying that for me, laying it out and just letting the air at it was enough to remove the initial smell. Maybe the key is not to wear it against your skin (even though they say you can, I don't recommend it; sweat ruined a lot of my older belts). Yes, it is big. I should have ordered the smallest size, but I did not return it to do so because it isn't a deal breaker. On the width, yes, it overlaps me from hips to ribs, but after a few uses, I grew accustomed to it. Biggest suggestion here is to unfasten it when you sit down for more than a few minutes. On the length, it wraps around me 1 1/2 times which might sound crazy but it's true; but having been in a hard cast before, that overlapped area actually feels really good. So, in the cons area I don't have the grievances other people do. Perhaps people who have had spine surgery will find this belt more beneficial since we have experience with the hard shell braces that you loved-hated.

Good for pain recovery
I got this for a backup to the one my friend gave me to use. It is nice and soft. Now it does have a slight smell but not too underpowering. It could bother you if you are sensitive to smell. I tried it on and fit where it needs to but it does not provide that back support that want like my friend binder does. Despite that extra support, it does give you a lite weight compress to goes across the admoninal for post surgery. Not too tight to not rub on incision and it give gentle support to help with heal. I had a hysterectomy on 12/16 and if had this at the very beginning it would had work for me. I near end 5 weeks out and i feel i need more back support. I also feel i need to go down a size. I got a large and i should have got a medium. Just not tight enough like i need it to be. After wearing it for 3 hours over clothes, i feel I need some more compressed and more back support at this point in my recovery. I am petite 5"1' and weight 158 ..binder fit where it needs to. It is very comfortable to walk and sit.. I even laid down and it was still very comfortable. Overall, good and comfortable ...petite women should considered this binder.

Best back brace ever!
This is a game changer! It helps keep your abdomen and back supported. It’s has adjustable bands to help get the perfect fit for each individual. It was perfect for me after surgery and on a daily basis.

WASTE OF MONEY
I bought this after reading the positive reviews since I just had abdominal surgery and I needed a second binder as a back up. This is the biggest piece of junk do not waste your money. It does not stay in place constantly keeps going up one little strip of Velcro to secure the belt that doesn’t even stay. The elasticity does not last even a second before you start to feel it loose and not supporting you. Over everything the material STINKS!! I thought I could bare the smell and it would dissipate after a while, washed it and all and it smells horrible. I have a short torso and was happy to have found this, but was I wrong. Do not fall for the positive reviews because God knows who put them there or how much they were paid to say the positive things for this piece of junk.

I tend to get aches and pains in my lower back and sides after a run, but wearing this while running, and for a time afterwards, helps to minimize those effects. It means I'm recovered and ready for another run early the next day, and suffering less later that evening. Don't worry too much about the sizing on these - not only do they stretch quite a lot, but the velcro fastening fixes anywhere along the belt. If you're at all unsure about your size, I'd go for a larger one than you need as you'll be able to fix it smaller if you need to. Either way it's easy to put on and stays in position even with running. I'd fasten it quite tight for the best results. Quality is excellent, clearly well made, and I can't see it falling apart any time soon. It's hand washable, which is pretty easy to do, then pack it back away in its plastic sleeve ready for next time - perfect. The only slight drawback is there's quite a strong smell from it straight out of the packaging. It's not terrible, it's a very "clean" smell, probably from the material used, but it is a bit overpowering. However, once it's on under clothes you don't notice it and the smell doesn't transfer to you when you're wearing it. Very comfortable in use, the material feels soft against your skin and you barely notice it once it's on. I guess if you're wearing very tight fitting clothes you'd probably notice the outline underneath, but I wear a loose t-shirt over the top and it's thin enough that it's basically invisible.
