Interaction of Color: New Complete Edition Review: A classic - I make the following random points in respect of this title : 1. The shipping and general processing of my purchase by desertcart was very good, as always. 2. The publication is in two hardcover volumes (one with an azure blue, and the other with an olive green cover), with a brown cloth bound slipcase and a cardboard box for extra protection. One volume focuses on the theory and an explanation of the plates (and how to use them), and the other volume is the colour plates themselves. 3. The physical presentation of the whole package just oozes quality. The cloth used on the covers, the binding, the paper stock are all first class. The proportions of each volume are also well thought out, each being tall and slim, although the volume with colour plates is heavier due to the thicker paper used. 4. The graphic design is so clean and simple - the typeface and graphic layout of each page make the books a treat to look at and read. The new colour plates are produced using stochastic printing. 5. The new edition has been produced with the complete cooperation of the Josef and Anni Albers foundation, who also provided a subsidy to allow the work to proceed. The editor in charge of this new edition, Michelle Komie, worked closely with the Foundation over a number of years. 6. Further reading on the new edition can be found on line as follows : [...] [...] 7. I've never seen the original edition, so I can't compare the original with this new edition. The original was published in 1963, as a limited print run, and cost $200 back then. The colour plates were silk screened. These copies are now very rare, and will set you back at least $4000. The new edition would have cost $1000+ if silk screen had been used again. Logically, this means less people would have bought it. As Michlelle Komie stated to me "The goal of this publication was to make the full set of plates available for the first time since 1963 as beautifully and reasonably as possible." It seems crazy to me that Michelle and the Foundation would allow the book to go to press if it could not do justice to the original. Let's face it, this is one of THE essential 20th Century colour treatises, and the fact that a publication of this quality and educational value is now available at a price that could barely get you a meal for two at a decent restaurant, is really a cause for celebration. Do yourselves a favour - buy the book - if you have an interest in colour theory, or even if you just admire beautiful design and things well made, you won't regret it. Review: Beautiful presentation of Albers concepts - I have wanted this masterful two volume work by Josef Albers for years. I saw the original edition when in college from a professor’s collection of significant art books. Although I was familiar with Albers work, there is so much to unpack in the text but that is made easier with the accompanying volume of media. It is an art book for artists or others who want to know more about the interaction of color. I could not be more thrilled with the quality of the books from the paper, binding and sleeve which holds the volumes. The media is even better than I remember it.

Beautiful presentation of Albers concepts

My Most Beautiful Textbook
I attended a brief workshop based on this book and the few exercises we had time to complete were revelatory. Since there don't seem to be any courses in my area that work their way through the entire book I decided to splurge and buy the full edition with all the original illustrations. After all, its a fraction of the cost of a workshop, and there's something to learn on every page. The book is beautifully printed and constructed and will be a joy to work with.

Must have edition for designers and creative professionals. Allows you to actually see all of the plates that go with the exercises. Gorgeous reproduction and printing quality. The magic of the Albers method can even inspire non-designers / non-artists once they take a look at this tome.

Totally beautiful in every way..
This new edition of the Josef Albers Interaction of Colour is a very satisfying purchase .. The binding of the two volumes and their box is simple and perfect. The works themselves are a perfect pair. I have wanted this for many years and am extremely pleased to have it.

Extremely Entertaining
I had my initial introduction to this book back in the 60's while in art school. I have rediscovered the joy of color I studied back then. It was time I became reacquainted with this wonderful study of color interaction and I recommend it to all designers, artists, home interior specialists, fashion designers, as well as any person interested in the power of color.

Did you think color is a property of things?
Taking into account color is the result of, let's say, three different functions - one is the way things reflect electromagnetic radiation; the other two, being related to perception: how the eye reacts to emitted or reflected "light" and how the brain interprets this phenomenon - we can fairly state color do not exists the way we think it does. But what a wonderful chance to make this clear and to have the opportunity to manipulate and to experience, according to our will, this "non existing resource". Albers' work is another door to understanding the "non absolute": perception is relative; reality is something else...

Trotzdem sollte man "Interaction of Color" haben.

Una pietra miliare indispensabile per studia o lavora con il colore. Piuttosto costoso, ma vale il suo prezzo.
