Good product, be aware it is sold individually
Just an FYI, each package only contains 1 sponge (filter floss comes in a 6 pack). . . This perfectly fits the trays inside the cascade 1200 and 1500 canister filters. The sponge is quite coarse and will catch the biggest debris particles. However you'll want a tray or two loaded with filter floss to polish the water. As for maintenance of the bio-sponge, there's really no reason to replace this product any sooner than once a year. To clean it: pour the old canister water into a bucket, then take and wring out this "biosponge" in there. Wash it off using the old aquarium water and once it's fairly clean, put the sponge right back into the filter. Don't use city tap water to wash this because the chlorine will kill the beneficial denitrifying bacteria. I say 5 stars out of 5 because it perfectly fits the filter tray, the price isn't outrageous, and it will last a really long time.

Using it for stock tank!
With above ground pool pumps/filters sold out everywhere this Covid-19 summer, we got the Penn Plax Cascade 1500 filter pump for our 300 gallon stock tank that we use to cool off in. It arrived in two days at a great price and works like a charm to keep the water in the stock tank crystal clear (we cover the tank at night and also use a floater with small chlorine tablets). The pump is near silent and performs way better for our make-do little above ground pool than we ever expected, though it was designed for aquariums and not pools.

Crystal clear water overnight
The "used" Penn Plax 1500 I purchased for a great discount was apparently sold as used only because the box was slightly crushed, which in no way effected the filter. The filter was pristine, not scratched in any way, and after googling how to place the biomedia ( the instructions were completely opposite of all I'd ever researched ) it only took five minutes or so to have the filter up and running. I continued using my previous filter in hopes that it would help speed up or reduce the cycling time. That worked perfectly😎 BTW, and by the next morning the water was so crystal clear it looked as though my turtles were suspended in air. I'd actually never realized just what a difference a canister filter would make in my water quality. I usually do a weekly water change of about 25% as a matter of course, and waited for one month before cleaning the filter. Based on the appearance of the bio media at that change, I will increase the timeframe by at least two weeks before cleaning it again, and if it still looks as clean at that time, and my water testing remains at proper levels, I'll increase the time between cleanings accordingly. It was slightly intimidating the first time I turned it off, but shouldn't have been. Only took about five to ten minutes all told to clean, and another five or so to get it hooked back up and primed. I'm extremely pleased with the product and the seller. I would make the same purchase from the seller at anytime I need another filter for a new tank.

PENN-Plax Cascade 600 Submersible Aquarium filter.
I use this in my Penn-Plax Cascade 600 Submersible Aquarium filter along with a single sheet of polyester bedding, and biomax. In that order. I also chose to hot-rod my filters to suit my own needs it just works better for me that way and my Submersible Aquarium filter came with this original sponging and I really liked it so I kept investing in these instead of the charcoal cartridge. There’s nothing wrong with the Penn Plax charcoal cartridges i just chose not to use them because my water is perfectly fine it comes from our local water well. I have another filter at the end. And with this set up and filtration I do not have to worry about a foul smell or cloudy water. It stays perfectly clean and I have a 3 year old Red Eared Slider that’s 5 1/2 inches and 3 Blood Parrot Cichlids two that’s 2 inches and one of my parrot fish that’s 4 inches. & I have no issues. I wash the gunk out of the sponge in tank water every month only during my big water change. As I keep up with weekly and monthly water changes I do not need to clean my sponge often plus it doesn’t get clogged with anything. I don’t keep small fry or fish, shrimp, or any lil critters in this tank. It can also be because I only feed my fish in the tank Jade my red eared slider has all her feeding times in a 20 long sterilite tub. Except for her occasional shrimp treat she eats from my hand. Shipping was quick and sponge came in great condition. Thank you so much.

Great filter
I used these or my 3 turtles. If you know about turtles, you know they create alot of sludge and nastiness. This filter will have your water running clear.
