The Evans clear Emad Heavyweight is by far the best batter head I have ever used
The Evans clear Emad Heavyweight is by far the best batter head I have ever used. When it arrived, I just took it out of the box, put it on my 26" kick drum, tuned it just past the wrinkles, added the pedal and hit it a few times. I honestly could not believe the sound I was hearing. It had the deep tone and solid punch I have been after for years, right out of the box just like the ad says. I tried several different tuning levels and it sounded great at all of them, but I like it best just above the wrinkles. I do not have any muffling whatsoever inside the drum, just the foam rings that come with the head. With the double 10 mil plys there is no need to worry about damaging this head, no matter how hard you hit, and I have a very heavy foot on the kick (huge Bonham fan). I also use a wood beater on my pedal and this head stands up to this kind of punishment. I have previously used regular Evans Emad bass drum heads and they were great, but this one is definitely a step beyond those. I have two drum sets and I will soon be changing my other kick drum to the Heavyweight for sure. Anybody that is thinking about trying these heads, go ahead, you won't regret it.

Sounds and feels phenominal!
I bought a new Tama kit with an 18 x 22 bass drum. I used remo for over 20 years. But I decided to give evans a try. I replaced the stock Tama head with this one. First, the quality is top notch. I'm not one to mess with frills and fluff (the sound deadening foam ring holder). I wasn't skeptical, just curious. The bass drum was too boomy for my room (and my neighbors). I tried the remo foam ring muffler but that was too much muffling... it completely killed the tone. When I installed this and hit the bass drum, I could feel my grin reaching my ears! It was the best sounding bass drum I've heard (in person). Now, to be fair, I didn't just use this head to get that sound. I ended up using the stock Tama front head (with a 6" hole cut out for a mic) and used the remo muffler on that side. It sounded incredible as I played it. But it didn't transfer well recorderd. The feel of the head is nice and solid. I did also install a beater pad. It's the most I've ever paid for a bass drum head... but very worth the expense!

Punchy, Throaty, Great Response - No Low Velocity Tone, Though
The EMAD 22 Clear is a punchy, throaty kickhead with very little resonance or tone, ideal for prog rock, hard rock, metal, and EDM applications where mellow or soft tones are undesirable. Produces plenty of "oomf" at all velocities, although when played softly, provides lackluster support for your rhythm. Not meant for jazz, ballads, or softer pieces since the attack is so high on this head.Great value for the cash, also incredibly durable, when compared to similar Remo heads.

The transformation of the sound my double bass set I'm piecing together is amazing!! Love the deep hard thump it puts out I've tuned and tuned to achieve on my old heads. Especially playing metal/ extreme metal .instead of tightening or loosening bolts on both bass heads was a pain now just slide in the other ring or go without one and get a wide arrange of sounds is killer. Thanks Evans for making a head that sounds killer and can take a several series of hard double kick hits and not rip is awesome. Getting the black chrome Tom heads for the rest of my set next

broke after 8 months of moderate use
So I had this for about 8 months before it broke. When I put it on, it seemed pretty thick and durable. Now, I will admit that I'm not a professional, and I probably don't treat my drums the best, but I still would have expected it to last a bit longer. Durability aside, I did like the sound, and the dampeners were pretty easy to put on and take off.

Excellent drum head,...I love them,...however, not necessarily suited for all playing styles.
I replaced two 24" power stroke 4's with these heads. The power strokes are an outstanding head,....however, I was looking for a deeper, lower tone for my 18x24's and got that with these Evans heads. They seat perfectly, and tune up easily. They are designed for heavy hitters, however, when tuned correctly will sound great at lower volumes and attack levels. A very thick two ply head.
