Memories.
This is NOT a politically correct book at all and I won’t read it to my grandchildren. BUT long ago when I was a kid , I loved it and my mom read it to me a hundred times. When I got older she got me a poodle. He was black so I named him sambo. Never would happen in todays world but the book brought me back many childhood empties so I wanted a copy of it. It is a good story. And it’s got morals but it’s totally , in my opinion kind of predijuice. I am happy to have a copy though for my memories with mom.

What memories, even if they are politically incorrect
I remember this book fondly from my childhood. Little Black Sambo had such an amazing adventure in the jungle and managed to get home in one piece and with all his beautiful clothes intact. I would have screamed and run away if I met a tiger and the tiger would have surely chased me and killed me. In this fantasy Sambo has the presence of mind to bargain with the tigers and escapes with his life while the proud and greedy tigers come to a bad end.Forty years ago a local pancake house was called Sambo's. The decor was taken from the book's illustrations. Of course there was "tiger butter" to put on your pancakes. Alas, with everyone worried about offending minorities of any type, the owners decided to change the theme of the restaurant. Today, I expect that very few children even know the story of the resourceful little boy from Africa. I'm glad it has been republished.

Color illustrations inside
I was a little nervous ordering this because some of the reviews were saying that the illustrations were all black and white, but the book I got had color illustrations. The cover is yellow with Sambo and the tigers. This is a reprint of the authorized American version and seems to use American blacks not south Indian blacks as the cartoons characters. It ends up creating a little cognitive dissonance, since tigers don’t live in the United States, but it’s a children’s book and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It’s a whimsical and delightful story.

A very fond childhood memory of reading this delightful story!
I am 66 yrs young. When I was a little girl, I absolutely loved this story! I purchased this book to preserve it and the fond memories I had of it as a child. Now that books are being “banned” for a myriad of reasons, I didn’t want to take any chance that I might not see this story again! I’m so glad to have it and can share it with others who may love this story as much as I always have!!

I had it in hard cover like the little golden book
It is a story read to me as a child and I am 72 yrs old. I had it in hard cover like the little golden book. When my son was old enough to enjoy the book I purchased it for him in early 60's. The tile was changed to LITTLE BRAVE SAMBO. For years it was off the market. I could not find it for my grandson and other grand children. It was gone like the movie SONG OF THE SOUTH. I liked that this book was back on the market in several different covers, it is the same story. There use to be SAMBO RESTAURANTS WE LIKED TO GO TO TO BUY PANCAKES. THEY ALL CHANGED THEIR NAME AFTER A FASHION AROUND THE TIME THE BOOKS LEFT THE MARKET. .

A childhood favorite
When I was a kid in the early 80’s, I would go visit my grandparents. They had this book when it was a Little Golden book. Since then LGB probably decided the 1923 character descriptions & names in this book were not what they wanted their name attached to. Which I get. The book is way behind in times as far as race. However, I love this book. This book brings back memories of being at my grandparent’s house. I loved being there. And I miss them terribly. So when I saw this book was available on Amazon I had to buy it. I’m so glad I did. Reading it again definitely put a smile on my face.

Not gently used
The back of the cover came torn and stained with an oily substance
