Legend of the Star Runner: A Timmi Tobbson Adventure Book for Boys and Girls (Solve-Them-Yourself Mysteries for Kids 8-12)

Parent and Former Elementary School Librarian. I purchased this for my little one who really likes mysteries and solving puzzles. This book invites the reader to take part in solving mysteries every step of the way, which helps draw readers in. My child enjoyed helping solve the mystery and surprised even me with the ability to make inferences and notice things that even I wouldn’t notice. We read this together at bedtime so we were able to do a small chapter or two each night which worked out perfectly. this would also be perfect for a reluctant reader because the small chapters are engaging and easily digestible. This is a must have especially for libraries, readers who like adventure and action, and reluctant readers with short attention spans. The artwork is incredibly appealing and engaging and book is completely chocked full of glossy Illustrations. we really enjoyed the plot as it was full of action, adventure, mystery, and drama!!! If I was still currently speaking at conferences for my top reviewed books for kids this would be on my must purchase list!! We’ve already started on the second book in the series and are looking forward to many more adventures with Timmi and his friends.

My 7 year old loved the book. She likes puzzles and riddles, so this was a great fit. After each chapter a question is asked and I felt this really kept her engaged.

After finishing the box set of the Timmi Tobbson Jr. books, my seven-year-old and I decided to give it a go at an "older kid" Timmi Tobbson book. My son loved how engaging the book was and the pictures every few pages. A few words would get him thinking as it is more geared at older kids, and he didn't understand all the vocabulary, but it was great for him to learn new words as well. My son is an avid reader, and was able to read the Jr books himself, but these books, I read to him, as they are bit advanced for him. Some of the puzzles were easier than others, and some we were unable to solve, but they all kept both him and myself engaged and thinking. These aren't really "hidden pictures" puzzles, but more so where you have to take the context of the chapter (sometimes even a few chapters back), and tie it together with the picture to figure out the answer to the puzzle. We are already in the middle of the second book

My 7 year old loved this! It follows the format of the now wildly innappropriate Black Hand Gang series that I loved as a child. At the end of each chapter there is a question and a visual clue for the reader to solve. The answer is revealed on the next page so no flipping to the back to solve. The books are light hearted and fun and easy to read.

My 7-year-old, who is very picky about books to read, loved this book. He's very smart but has a short attention span. This book kept him tuned in with the storyline, clues, and pictures to figure out the riddles. He's already asked for the next two books. I've recommended to several friends as well. This is definitely a must-have book!!

This was a wonderful book! We read it in our accelerated reading class and worked on the clues as a group. It kept everyone engaged. The great descriptions along with the pictures helps students to visualize the story. My students are reading the sequels independently and are thrilled!

These are great for your reluctant reader who needs more brain stimulation to stay engaged. It’s a great introduction into the mystery genre while also combining a new approach to the “choose your own adventure” style. Children love the puzzles they encounter that gets engaged in solving the mystery with the characters.

My 9-year-old daughter read this book on her own in just 2 days, she was glued to it. She loved solving the puzzles, she only needed help with the most difficult ones. After reading the book she noticed there was another hidden puzzle to be solved via the website to get an extra present from the author himself! She was really excited when she received it! Highly recommended.

I would recommend Legend of the Star Runner to any parent with a child who thinks of books as being boring as this one provides a challenge at every step of the way. I bought this book to read on my kindle as the notion of going on a fictional treasure hunt by reading a story intriguing, and my curiosity as a writer led me to buy it. I found the story an easy read. I liked the mix of characters. Found Lilli to be easy to picture and Marvin and Timmi were a great combination. The three kids took upon themselves to help Lilli's grandfather avoid eviction by finding buried or hidden treasure - a pirate ship named The Star Runner. The elusive guardians of the mystery were just a nasty enough threat to add that touch of danger to the story. The book is a clever mix of interactive tools with a puzzle being revealed at the end of every chapter and the answer given at the start of the next chapter. I found myself scrutinising the detailed illustrations to find the answer to the puzzle. If it interests me an older child, I could see a lot of children losing themselves in this neat story.

Perfect gift for kids, they will enjoy it

My kids loved this book and the solve the clues pictures at each chapters ends. The story was well crafted and kept a driving pace from beginning to end. Twists, turns and treausre.

My 11 year old son is amazed with this book, he also loved the secret puzzle hidden thorough the book. He also enjoyed the story and he is still interested in the sequel! Great book!
