It works like a lot of locking blade knives. You'll press down on a latch that's located on the back of the handle to release the blade, then slowly close the blade into the handle (make sure you don't cut yourself).

Q: purchased one at ft bragg px yesterday--cannot get blade to retract--how do?

To pull the blade out, there is a small edge on the blade you can grab to pull it out. To store the blade away, you need to press the silver part of the colored handle down while moving the blade into the enclosure. Q: Are you able to carry this keychain into a plane?

This can definitely be placed into checked luggage, and I believe it likely should be permitted in carry-on. It is my understanding that TSA should allow a blade less that 2.36”—this knife’s blade is 2” (I personally would not bet ownership of any of my knives on an individual TSA agent allowing it to be carried in my pocket onto a plane—I think it would be wise to place in checked luggage)
