I primarily bought this product based off of this statement as well as the fact it could record a second split. While it does make noise, it's such a faint noise that it wasn't a disappointment for the purposes I needed it. Perhaps previous iterations of the stopwatch didn't make noises, but it appears to as of now. **Q: Does it count down as well? For example if I want to give myself only 5 minutes to do a certain task, will it count down to 0 and then beep?** A: No, there is no count down functionality on this Stopwatch **Q: Does this stopwatch have an hourly chime, and if so, can that be turned off?** A: No, it doesn't. The video of John's link dated November 8, 2016 is about a different model, and it does not apply. (This model does not have the "MODE" switch as the video shows.) **Q: Can you see the numbers in the dark?** A: Hi Julie Thank you for your question. The stop watch does not have a backlight so visibility will be reduced significantly in the dark. This means the batteries are not held in place and therefore they drop out. I put it back several times but now it is lost so I have put an elastic band round it to see if I can stop the batteris falling out.
