My gr grandson and I love fishing games and I hope there is something I ...

I loaded game and went through what I guess was supposed to get me to the point of playing the game . however I cannot seem to lock on to a character and do any fishing. I have no control on the fisherman. There is nothing in the box or on the disc that helps you learn how to platy the game. ? any help would be appreciated. My gr grandson and I love fishing games and I hope there is something I am either doing wrong or not completeing that's keeping us from getting to play this game
