REAL wood, sturdy functional bed
Bought this as part of a redesign for my teen's bedroom. I love assembling stuff, but this is a lot of materials - 6 boxes to be precise! It took a few hours at a comfortable pace. The build quality is top notch. There are no cam locks, no particle-board. It's all solid pine, screws, and dowels. The instructions are mostly pretty good - the only issue I had was a modification that needs to be made if you're installing the drawers rather than the trundle. It was a little hard to follow on the main instructions. Fortunately, the instructions for the drawer add-ons clarified it and explained it much better. The drawers are great as well, glide easily, and the drawer guides were already mounted to the cabinet frames, which was a pleasant surprise and shortened the build. This thing is heavy (again, real wood here), and when the drawers are seated in place, makes the piece tricky to move. My advice is to get it in place once the frame is assembled before the drawers are installed. The only hiccup with the bed was that I didn't receive the hardware for the slats. Fortunately, I had the screws from her old bed and used those.I'm very happy with this overall - but I'm more impressed with this seller. I ordered this with the nightstand, and FedEx lost that shipment (1 of 7) but marked it delivered, and was absolutely unhelpful to try and find it, even though their website showed it as delayed and in transit, they're automated research told me it was delivered and to take it up with the seller. Well, after waiting a week+ and not getting it, I did contact the seller. They were AWESOME in their response. He apologized, dove right into researching it, followed up immediately, got another one sent out, and I'm happy to report it was here today, less than 48 hours from my inquiry. He turned a bad experience into an absolutely positive experience, because of the horrible service that his shipper caused. I highly recommend this product, and this company. Thank you Andrew!

Well designed and sturdy
Was impressed with the design of this bed. Directions were not great but definitely ok to follow. Would definitely recommend a 5/32 hex (allen) bit to use in electric drill or screwdriver. Putting in all the screws with their little crank thing will take you a week. Total time on bed was about 3.5 hrs for my son and I but we took time to glue all dowels and drawer corners which added a little time. Trying to make the bed a little more 17yo boy resistant. Was very satisfied with the sturdiness and qualty of fit to parts....no particle boards in construction...all wood.

Not bad for the price, but a few things to know
I gave this bed 4 stars because the finished product is a pretty decent piece of furniture, especially when you consider the price. Having said that there were a couple of problems that kept it from being 5 stars, and a few tips that might help some people who choose to order it.First of all, shipping and delivery were great. The freight forwarder (ABF) worked with me as soon as the order was received, and they were able to get it to me almost two full weeks before the scheduled delivery date from Amazon. The dispatcher and driver were very helpful, and worked with my very difficult delivery location. The boxes were intact and undamaged. The furniture itself is pretty well finished. Some slight imperfections that you would probably find in more expensive pieces as well. Nothing that is very noticeable or would require correction by any but the most picky customers. The pieces are all real wood - no particle board, MDF or OSB. A little plywood for the drawer bottoms, which are just a bit thin, but everything else is actual lumber (not sure what species, but some of the drawer assembly pieces are common pine or spruce. As previously stated, everything arrived undamaged, with one major exception, which is the reason I couldn't give it 5 stars. I got the 12 drawer full size model, and one of the 6 drawer units was in perfect condition. The other looked like it had been assembled by a someone who just didn't care. 10 of the screws where the drawer guides fastened to the support pieces had to be replaced. The assembler had driven the screws at an angle that caused the support pieces to split and splinter. Many of the screws were only loosely inserted or had fallen out completely. All but one of these occurrences were in the back, where the imperfections are ultimately invisible. One was in the front, though, but the visible portion is mostly hidden by a drawer front.I know other people have identified and photographed these same problems, and I'm sure if I had complained the company would have sent a replacement drawer unit. Luckily I'm pretty handy, so I was able to fix the problems without too much trouble. All I did was remove the short screws they had used and broke off the loose splinters and chips of wood. I then drilled the holes deeper into the supports and substituted some longer wood screws I had laying around. The result is everything works fine, and you would have to know where to look to find the one front flaw. Took about an hour to fix, but if you aren't comfortable with this level of repair it could be worse.Once the drawer unit was repaired, the actual assembly took about an hour and a half. All the hardware was there and the instructions, which were all pictures, were nonetheless clear and easy to follow. For some reason, the pages were stapled together out of order, but the steps were numbered anyway. Interestingly the parts card had one spot labeled "spare hardware", which contained just one nut and bolt for fastening the side rails to the head/foot boards. Coincidentally, one of the original nuts in the group of eight of these was mis-threaded, and I damaged the bolt trying to force them to work. Funny that the one spare they included happened to be the one spare I needed. Finally, a few things I did that others might find helpful. First of all, if you aren't using a cordless electric screwdriver you should be, and you can save a lot of time by getting a hex bit that fits the bolts they provide. It would be nice if they included one in addition to the little Allen wrench they give you. If you have to tighten all the bolts using that wrench, though, add about a half hour to the assembly. Second, if you think you might use the shelves in the headboard for anything electrical, get a couple of desk grommets. It's easier and less messy to hole-saw for these before the headboard is assembled, and the finished look is worth the few bucks they cost. Finally, I bought a whole bunch of the adhesive backed furniture sliders that are a half inch wide by 4 inches long. Before assembly I put them all along the bottom edges of every piece that contacts the floor. I think I used 16 for each drawer unit, and a few more for the head and foot boards. Cost about $15 on Amazon and took a few minutes to apply, but now I can slide the entire unit around if I need to. If you don't do that, you better do the assembly pretty much right where you want it to stay. One last comment about the quality control of the item. The majority of the pieces came from Vietnam, and they had no problems. However, on the side of each drawer unit box were the words "Assembled in USA". Ironically, this is where all of my problems were found, and most other people's problems, from what I read in other reviews. In retrospect, I should have taken pictures of the damage, my repairs, and my modifications, but I didn't, and I'm not going to take anything apart to go back and get some.
